I have Tr.A1 as a single. Acquired it years ago(forgot where I bought it, though could've been Rices in Newcastle). B1 serves as(appropriately enough) the single's B-side.

RC: "One day in your life I regard as one of his best", As you said back on Boxing Day, last year, RC! You've been eating radishes, matey, you're starting to repeat yourself....repeat yourself....repeat yourself....repeat yourself....repeat yourself....!(ha-ha) But as I commented on the same day, that song, and his other Motown singles far eclipsed anything he did on the lesser label, CBS/Epic.

Sorry to disappoint you, re: Joanne, RC. Good track though! Actually you could see where Mike Nesmith was heading as far back as 1967 when The Monkees recorded "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round, The country music influence on that track stood out like dogs' .....er, you know...! Further evidence of that influence came in 1969 with the song "Good Clean Fun" just before the remaining three Monkees went their separate ways and Nesmith concentrated still further on that style. Another good single from Nesmith(& his phantom group, the First National Band) was "Silver Moon" with an honourable mention to the B-side, "Lady Of The Valley"., Along with "Joanne" c/w "One Rose", these were issued in 1970.

Actually, RC, beyond Vol.7 I hadn't seen that many Chartbusters series issues. I do recall seeing Vol.8, and it had an effect of a "halo" image of a solar eclipse as its cover design, and I think that volume was issued around 1973 or so, but then I never laid eyes on any more volumes after that. It surprises me that the Chartbusters series actually got as far as Vol.12. Just how many volumes were there, exactly? I realise now I commented here on this earlier, but it's been a while since this album had come up. My comments were on "One Day In Your Life" by Michael Jackson. It would be good to see the back cover and labels too. If PhilWill could upload those at some time in the future?

Sorry to have to disagree with you, RC, but upon checking a CD that I'd made some time ago of this album(mastered from the cassette I had of it before I'd acquired the LP), a quick listen revealed the track on the LP is in full, normal stereo, though the spread is not that well defined. Nonetheless, "Down In The Riverina" is normal stereo.

RC, You were asking if Motown Chartbusters Volume 6 was issued in Australia during 1971? Simple answer, NO! This album was issued the following year, 1972, with notable variations in content and number of tracks. Plus the fact it was issued on EMI's budget AXIS label, and, to my knowledge, had not been reissued at any time since then.

True confessions, RC? Curious though how licencing differs so wildly between markets. If an album is issued on a given label in its home market(in this case, Atlantic), then by rights it should appear on the same label in ALL other markets where it's released if the company is represented there. The ABBA situation is understandable as the Swedish label, Polar Musik, had no presence outside Sweden (except in other Scandinavian markets, perhaps), so their catalogue(now with Polydor) was "up for grabs" in the 1970s.

Yes, RC, that IS the Neil Diamond song, and no, it's not in English, the German lyric was written by the "collaborator", Arnie, and it's not a direct translation either.
I don't have the year of issue for this album as it was neither on the label or the cover. If any of our contributors in Germany, Austria or Switzerland know this album, maybe you know when it came out. Feel free to add the detail in your own time. Vieleicht wissen Sie, Fixbutte, wenn dieses Album entfuehrt war.(hope I translated that correctly, I was asking you if you knew when this album was released, Fixbutte.)

When EMI Australia issued Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da as a single, they backed it with While My Guitar Gently Weeps Elsewhere, when Ob-La-Di... eventually turned up on a single, it was backed with Julia. If memory serves, I think EMI Australia was the first to issue Ob-La-Di on 45. I believe EMI in Britain had not intended it to be a single, initially.

Volume 7 was the only one I could get, but not all the tracks were of 70s vintage. One track on that volume(the one that prompted my purchase of the album) was Don Fardon's "Indian Reservation" which really didn't belong in the set as it was of 1968 vintage. I'd like to have gotten Vol.1 but alas, never saw any copies.

RC's comment: "Oh well that's nothing as America ignored British issues"! Yeah, didn't they, what! But EMI eventually pulled its errant American infant(Capitol) into line while EMI's "adult" off-springs, the Euro divisions, toed the line as they should, using the proper artwork(or adaptions thereof), but naughty Australia came up with dreadfully-dull, boring cover, but at least put the album out with ALL tracks in proper order, just wish they didn't have those ghastly publishing credit "stamps" on the labels.

I've got Volume 7 in this series. Randy Newman is listed as doing "He'll Have To Go", a cover of the old Jim Reeves song, but when you play the track, you get:
"Short people got no reason, no reason, short people got....." Someone goofed!

Trainman's comment: "No, I'm not a moderator, just a busy-body user" Aren't we all?... er, don't answer that. Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll look it up when I get the album scanned and ready for upload.

Various Artists - Motown Chartbusters Vol.6
Actually, RC, this album WAS NOT issued in Australia, not in this form as Chartbusters Vol.6 in any case. EMI Australia issued a cut-down version, with two less tracks and a track change or two in the content, and issued it as "It's Summer" on the budget Axis label(I've already uploaded that album some weeks ago). Go into the "More Comments" section, go back about a month and you should see it there.

At my guess, Phil, even through that period you suggested, the words EMI Records Ltd. would still be appearing on the labels. I've seen it there on 1977-vintage 45s(I have two Stevie Wonder singles of that vintage, British too! I've seen it printed on them) so I don't think Motown International shook off its dependency on EMI that easily!

My regret is that EMI Australia had to "go it alone" with their own sleeve design instead of the far superior British cover. Australian cover - very ordinary, very uninspiring!

Trainman, hi! Apart from the title and front cover, my copy(when I do get to upload it) is a distinctly different album by virtue of having 20 tracks instead of the American 10-tracker! As for links or hotlinks, if it's all the same with you, I'll leave that to a moderator, which, I believe you may be.

The very same contents(in same track order) was issued in Germany by Teldec(Telefunken-Decca) on the London label as "Oldies But Goldies" in 1974 as NL-830. And it was in "synthetic stereo", not true stereo.

Apart from copyright warnings around the edge, there being 20 tracks instead of 10, and the catalogue number, yeah, the label will be the same - vintage Capitol TM on purple label... yep! Sure will!

Peter Maffay - Meine Freiheit
The English translation of "Meine Freiheit" is "My Freedom". Other than track B1, which needs no translation, here are the English translations of the remaining titles, in order:
A1-Charly's People; A2-From Man To Man; A3-My Freedom(title track); A4-Little Girl; A5-No-one Can Do Anything About It. A6-Where Is It Written?; B2-On The Road To Nimes; B3-Wild Horses; B4-If It's Wrong To Love You; B5-Then Come To Me; B6-My Home - The Road. These are the nearest translations to English as I can work out. Perhaps Fixbutte will be able to give more accurate translations.

Hi, PhilMH! Your reply contained the words "Motown UK" which prompted me to click for a close-up and scrutinise the labels "with extreme scrute!"(ha-ha) and noted the words "EMI Records Ltd." at the beginning of the copyright warning. Are you suggesting that Motown had started operating in England, independently of EMI?
