PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Trippin' On Your Soul | A2 - another one to change the disambiguator to [Johnnie Taylor], and Ace/Kent should have been ashamed of themselves for getting the spelling wrong!
PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die | A7 - you guessed it, please change the disambiguator to the correct spelling [Johnnie Taylor].
PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Heavy Hits | B2 - images at Discogs show that this artist is spelled Johnny Taylor, so please change the disambiguator to the correct name [Johnnie Taylor].
PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hit After Hit | A1- a better disambiguator for this artist would be [Johnnie Taylor], being the correct spelling of his name, and which has several entries on this site.

PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Far Out | B6 a better disambiguator for this artist would be [Johnnie Taylor], being the correct spelling of his name, and which has several entries on this site.
PhilMH SUBS 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Stax Hits | Tracks A4 and B1, the artist should be Johnnie Taylor, as correctly shown on the cover and the labels.

PhilMH SUBS 17th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumThe Temptations - My Girl | Hi ppint, my understanding is that record company manufacture, warehousing and distribution arrangements in Europe are completely independent of any country's membership of the EU, or lack thereof; this I gleaned from a Discogs forum topic some years ago, stated by a member who has himself been involved in the record industry and seems to be familiar with most of the majors and their operating practices; "Made in EU" on a package and/or a disc just indicates that the item was made in an EU country, but does not necessarily mean that it is distributed in the EU (and this is shown by post-Brexit releases on the Ace/Kent/etc. group of labels, for example). Also, this collection was first released via PolyGram in 1997 with the same catalogue number and barcode, but with different packaging, and it seems that the earliest copies with the new Universal package came with PolyGram discs, so I recommend changing the release year here to 1997.

PhilMH SUBS 16th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumStevie Wonder - Talking Book | Request to correct label to Tamla Motown has been submitted.
PhilMH SUBS 13th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumWebb Pierce - That Wondering Boy | I agree it's probably 1989 or 1990 - the barcode is a pretty huge clue that it's not 1956, which was the year of the original release on US Decca. Another clue is the licensing credit for MCA Records - that label/company name didn't exist in 1956, US Decca was bought by MCA, Inc. in 1962, and the MCA Records label was launched outside the US and Canada in 1968/69.
Anyway, this isn't listed in the 16th edition of Music Master's Record Catalogue published in 1989, but is listed (without a date) in the 18th edition, published 1991 - I don't have the 17th edition. It hasn't rated a mention in Music Week's new release listings from that period.
PhilMH SUBS 11th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumHarold Land - The Fox | And anyway the original number was S-7619, see the images.
PhilMH SUBS 11th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumHarold Land - The Fox | S-6719 shouldn't be listed as an additional current catalogue number of this CD, as it is just a historical reference to the original LP catalogue number; two different formats should never have exactly the same catalogue number.
PhilMH SUBS 7th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumOtis Redding - The Dock Of The Bay | For this site, the name of the second label isn't Atco Record, just Atco.
PhilMH SUBS 7th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumDemis Roussos - Fire And Ice | Not 1971 - the labels say 1976. Plus, in 1971 the Australian Phonogram name was Phonogram Recordings Pty. Limited, the "Recordings" was dropped the following year.
PhilMH SUBS 7th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumNina Simone - Legends | So are these original 50s/60s/70s recordings, or could they actually be re-recordings made by Nina late in her life for small change? If these are the original versions, they would certainly have been in breach of UK copyright, which I think was still 50 years for sound recordings back in 1994, and all of Nina's work to that point was less than 50 years old, and some, like "Here Comes the Sun" and "My Way", recorded for RCA in 1971, were less than 25 years old!
PhilMH SUBS 5th Mar 2023 | | Cassette AlbumDusty Springfield - Love Songs | This was released as a 2-cassette pack with this,so the two entries should be merged.
PhilMH SUBS 4th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Goats Head Soup | Images are for the US version with catalogue number B0012815-02, no Polydor logo, US address, US rights societies, and FBI logo, rather than the Europe versions with catalogue number 0602527015606;see Discogs for one of those.
PhilMH SUBS 3rd Mar 2023 | | Classical ItemVienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Herbert Von Karajan - Brahms | Discogs has a US mono LP dated 1959, which would be right for the K prefix on the matrix numbers; presumably this Canadian release was at more-or-less the same time.
PhilMH SUBS 2nd Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumThe Golliwogs - Pre-Creedence | Different songs, ppint - The Golliwogs was released December 1965, Van Morrison's May 1967.
PhilMH SUBS 1st Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Gold Diamond | P.S. Found a review in Gramophone, December 1973 issue, which would probably have been available in early November - can't tell whether it's a September release being reviewed slightly late, or an advance copy of a November release, so no help at all, really!
PhilMH SUBS 1st Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Gold Diamond | Revisiting this because I have just been looking at another couple of ND releases; back in 2015, I had forgotten about Paul Pelletier's London LP listings, so I should have been able to find this then. However, I have since obtained Decca's 1975 and 1976 catalogues, and they both give the release date for this as September 1973, not November! Paul P. compiled his listings with the help of former Decca/London staff, so my guess is that this was originally scheduled for September, but then put back to November for some reason, and Decca's staff neglected to update the catalogues. Unfortunately UK music magazines for 1973 are mostly missing from the World Radio History site - Record Mirror is the most complete, but a search there turned up nothing. So, it's probably best to leave the date as it is for the moment.
PhilMH SUBS 1st Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Diamond - Velvet Gloves And Spit | 1973 is just the copyright year for the recordings; this is distributed by Ariola, who didn't get the European and other rights to MCA until 1st January 1980, and this label design also came into use in 1980.
PhilMH SUBS 28th Feb 2023 | | CD AlbumThe Golliwogs - Pre-Creedence | The copyright term in the UK was 50 years, but was extended to 70 years in 2013, so recordings first published up to the end of 1962 have 50 years copyright protection, but recordings from 1963 on have 70 years, and so the latter ruling applies to all the tracks here.
PhilMH SUBS 28th Feb 2023 | | CD AlbumThe Golliwogs - Pre-Creedence | No mention of Concord Music Group or their international licensee Universal Music Group makes this one look very suspect; UK companies can get away with releasing recordings first published before 1 January 1963 without permission, but these tracks are 1964 and later.

PhilMH SUBS 28th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Plastic Ono Band - Live Peace In Toronto 1969 | May still be 1969 after all, as UK release date was moved up to 12 December 1969 - further research required.

PhilMH SUBS 28th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Plastic Ono Band - Live Peace In Toronto 1969 | Well, I've been firmly told in Discogs that, notwithstanding the (P) 1970 on the labels, the US & UK release date of this album was Friday, 12th December 1969, because the album release was moved up to capture the Christmas market, and one user says that he bought his copy "in early December". Further research is needed for the other countries, though!
PhilMH SUBS 27th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Plastic Ono Band - Live Peace In Toronto 1969 | This is getting complicated - three of the UK music weeklies that I've just looked at (Record Mirror, Melody Maker, and New Musical Express) all have the same ad for this album, saying "Out Now", in their issues dated 13th December 1969 (a Saturday), with the NME also having a news item saying that the album was "out today (Friday)". So where does the (P) 1970 for some of the tracks come from? Was the album partly remixed, or edited, after initial release? It's a long time since I've heard this album, so did John swear somewhere, prompting EMI UK to bring out the scissors?
