ppint. 2nd Oct 2023		Book Lester Del Rey - Nerves	random house group ballantine books revised edition mmpb second printing, over-all sixth mmpb printing?° cover art by don brautigam (unsigned, credited detail from inside cover art of first revised printing) cover price $1.50 184pp. (check) including titles, indicia etc, end pp. advertising ° - the indicia publishing history is a mess, and requires deciphering: first revised edition: first printing: april 1976 sixth printing: august 1977 first special printing august 1976 first edition: june 1956 fifth printing: february 1974 sixth printing: september 1977 i do not believe that there were four (unlisted) printings of the revised edition between the first, in april 1976, and the sixth printing listed immediately after it, for august 1977; nor that the unrevised edition received a further ballantine mmpb printing *after* the revised edition mmpb was published by ballantine books - so the sixth printing: september 1977 seems to be a phantom; and i've no idea what the hitherto unmentioned ''first special printing'' listed for august 1976 was; on top of which, the listed february 1974 printing does not appear to exist in the real world... so i'd fairly confidently state that the two listed 1977 printings for august & september are both of the second mmpb printing of the revised edition - they're both p/bs of the same extent, and both are longer than the 160pp. of the unrevised edition's setting; that the first revised printing was probably the fifth ballantine mmpb printing over-all; and the listed february 1974 fifth printing of the unrevised edition probably does not exist; - but i've still no idea what the 8/1976 special printing actually was, and why it wasn't an mmpb printing.

ppint. 1st Oct 2023		Book Paul Tabori - Bricks Upon Dust	pál tábori was born 16/11/1908 in budapest, in the austro-hungarian empire, and died 9/11/1974. his parents were journalists, his father was murdered in 1944, but both he, his brother gyorgi (george) and their mother were able to escape germany and the holocaust earlier. between the world wars pál/paul tábori travelled widely, working as a screenwriter as well as a newspaper foreign correspondent. he gained a phd in psychology and a professorship before concentrating upon his journalism, including broadcasting from london during the second world war, which he combined with his activism in the protection and freeing from prison of journalists and writers, and writing books on a range of nonfictional subjects, including enquiries into magic, mysticism and the occult - and also revealing and publicising fraudulent exploitation of beliefs in these areas; and an increasing interest in sexuality and eroticism is apparent in both his studies, and his published non-fiction and fiction. he also found the time and the energy to work for alexander korda's london films from about 1943-1948, and in hollywood 1950-51; writing, including theatre and film screenplays, over thirty theatre productions and over a hundred of a wide variety of film screenplays.
