Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs & Band
Review
"I always loved his golden voice", Kristina said. When Boz Scaggs left the Steve Miller Band to form his own band I hoped it would develop into a blues band. But Boz had a more versatile concept. He mixed blues, soul and a little jazz into his musical masterplan. All was glued together by his velvet voice and a slick band of incredible musicians. So here we are, nine songs exactly fitting his concept. Some slow, some midtempo. As a bonus we get 'Baby's Callin' Me Home', a live track almost nine minutes long. It was recorded 1972 in San Francisco at the Fillmore West's 'Last Days'. Boz and his band presented this irresistable melody and jammed quite a bit in the middle section. But this was long before they turned into a more adult orientated soul-blues band. I love this long jam but Kristina is more into the other songs. So here we are.

Billy Bragg And Joe Henry - Shine A Light : Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad
Review
'What about those strange noises in the songs?, Kristina asked. I explained that Billy Bragg and Joe Henry recorded those songs while on a train journey from Chicago to Los Angeles. Whenever they had time on a station they recorded a song on the platform. So in the background there are inevitable noises heard on the songs. This creates a nice atmosphere a very authentic feel. They chose well known songs from the folk catalogue like 'Gentle on my mind' or 'The Midnight Special'. But there are also some less known songs like 'KC Moan' or ' The L&N don't stop here anymore'. Overall the atmosphere is very relaxed, very interesting stuff. And not boring at all.

Coco Montoya - Ya Think I'd Know Better
Review
I've seen Coco Montoya several times live, first in John Mayall's band with Walter Trout in 1987. My wife Kristina said: 'this looks like the photo has been taken on a spanish wedding.' And I replied: 'And would you listen to it anyway?' 'Yes sure, put it on!'.
So we listened to it while we were doing other things in the house. This is a classic blues album. 11 well-crafted songs. What amazes me most is the elegance of Coco Montoya's musicianship. Just listen to the second guitar solo in 'Monkey see, monkey do'. His guitar playing is so fluent. And there are more great solos in other songs.
'Nice' said Kristina. She's right.

P. P. Arnold - The Turning Tide
Review
Kristina said: 'Very colourful album. I remember her from another age. Is this new?' Yes this album has just been released but the recordings are from the late sixties and early seventies. 'Medicated Goo', 'Brand new day' and 'You can't always get what you want' were recorded with Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Bobby Whitlock and Carl Radle, better known as 'Derek and the Dominos'. How about that? And there is more: Two covers from Blood, Sweat and Tears, five songs written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees with some help from his brother.
It is about time that these songs are available to the public. This is all topped by P.P. Arnold's wonderful and powerful voice. I still cannot understand why there have been so many years when nobody heard anything from her.

Travis Tritt - The Rockin' Side
Review
'I'd rather hear a ballad or two from Travis Tritt', Kristina said to me. But not on an album that is called 'The Rockin' Side'. As you might expect there are only songs on here being a little faster. Well they are mostly in the midtempo region and are not too fast for the regular Travis Tritt clientel. All brilliant songs written by Jerry Chesnut, Gary Rossington, J.R. Cobb, Buddy Buie, Marty Stuart, Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey and many others. So quite a few sound familiar, have nice melodies, irresistable hook-lines, sung bravely and well played. An album for people who like the country song a little faster. 'Sounds good', Kristina said 'but not spectacular'. What can I say?
