Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
[YouTube Video]

Arctic Monkeys third album produced in the main by Joshua Homme, Queen of the Stone Age's main man. This was the first album he had produced and although his sound is a lot heavier than the Arctic Monkey's own, this collaboration works well as he allows them to evolve from previous offerings rather than just stamp the album with his imprint.

Game Of Thrones (2011 - 2019)
Rated 9/10
This is the story of nine noble families fighting to rule the mythical land of Westeros.

Although this is not the type of series I would normally rush to watch, in this instance the hype is justified and HBO have a hit (although at the time or writing I have only got through the first two seasons - all within the last fortnight).

Political themes, sexual content and lots of swashbuckling violence - it certain has what most adult audiences look for.

If you are considering starting on this one (and I recommend you do) keep at it for the first few episodes whilst it outlines the story-lines and you will soon be gripped.

A wasted evening. After all the hype I expected a movie with an all star cast that would at least entertain a little or keep me slightly interested, this movie failed on all accounts.

Passengers - Original Soundtracks 1
I think you are right - the "band/collective" is Passengers even though it is known as a Eno/Bono project and shown in lots of U2 discograhies. There is a bit more information available on Wikipedia.

As quoted on Wikipedia, Larry Mullins, Jr. (U2 drummer) sums it up when he says "There's a thin line between interesting music and self-indulgence. We crossed it on the Passengers record."

Metallica - Kill 'Em All
[YouTube Video]

The true birth of thrash. On Kill 'Em All, Metallica fuses the intricate riffing of New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Diamond Head with the velocity of Motörhead and hardcore punk. James Hetfield's highly technical rhythm guitar style drives most of the album, setting new standards of power, precision, and stamina. But really, the rest of the band is just as dexterous, playing with tightly controlled fury even at the most ridiculously fast tempos.

[none] - W.G. Backhouse And Sons Record Store Paper Bag
I bought most of my early teenage records at the Queen St branch of this local store. What I can remember is that it was run by a mother and daughter rather than the old man and sons. They also had the old thick EMI catalogues that they used to lend to me so that I could look for Tamla Motown singles to order in.

Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash At San Quentin (The Complete 1969 Concert)
Review
[YouTube Video]

To put the performance on Johnny Cash at San Quentin in a bit of perspective: Johnny Cash's key partner in the Tennessee Two, guitarist Luther Perkins, died in August 1968, just seven months before this set was recorded in February 1969. In addition to that, Cash was nearing the peak of his popularity -- his 1968 live album, At Folsom Prison, was a smash success -- but he was nearly at his wildest in his personal life, which surely spilled over into his performance. All of this sets the stage for Johnny Cash at San Quentin, a nominal sequel to At Folsom Prison that surpasses its predecessor and captures Cash at his rawest and wildest.

Part of this is due to how he feeds off of his captive audience, playing to the prisoners and seeming like one of them, but it's also due to the shifting dynamic within the band. Without Perkins, Cash isn't tied to the percolating two-step that defined his music to that point. Sure, it's still there, but it has a different feel coming from a different guitarist, and Cash sounds unhinged as he careens through his jailhouse ballads, old hits, and rockabilly-styled ravers, and even covers the Lovin' Spoonful ("Darlin' Companion").

No other Johnny Cash record sounds as wild as this. He sounds like an outlaw and renegade here, which is what gives it power -- listen to "A Boy Named Sue," a Shel Silverstein composition that could have been too cute by half, but is rescued by the wild-eyed, committed performance by Cash, where it sounds like he really was set on murdering that son of a bitch who named him Sue. He sounds that way throughout the record, and while most of the best moments did make it to the original 1969 album, the 2000 Columbia/Legacy release eclipses it by presenting nine previously unreleased bonus tracks, doubling the album's length, and presenting such insanely wild numbers as "Big River" as well as sweeter selections like "Daddy Sang Bass." Now, that's the only way to get the record, and that's how it should be, because this extra material makes a legendary album all the greater -- in fact, it helps make a case that this is the best Johnny Cash album ever cut.

Air - Moon Safari
[YouTube Video]
[YouTube Video]

Air's full-length debut, Moon Safari, proved they could write accessible pop songs like "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch the Stars." But it wasn't all pop. The opener, "La Femme d'Argent," was an otherworldly beginning, with a slinky bassline evoking Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson and a slow glide through seven minutes of growing bliss (plus a wonderful keyboard solo). The vocoderized "Remember" relaunched a wave of robot pop that hadn't been heard in almost 20 years, and the solos for harmonica and French horn on "Ce Matin La" made the Bacharach comparisons direct. Unlike most electronica producers, Air had musical ideas that stretched beyond samplers or keyboards, and Moon Safari found those ideas wrapped up in music that was engaging, warm, and irresistible. May be best to just go with Sheffield Arena with (if necessary) notes to say that in 1995 at the time of this concert it was known as....

The special guest were meant to have been The Verve but they pulled out and were replaced by Pulp

Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant
[YouTube Video]

[YouTube Video]

Not to be confused with Guthrie's 1967 debut album Alice's Restaurant, the soundtrack to Arthur Penn's 1969 film (as well as the movie itself) is built around Guthrie's 16-minute folk-rock talking-blues narrative "Alice Restaurant's Massacree," which is included here -- though this is a different recording from the classic one on Reprise Records, with slightly altered nuances and production, and every bit as funny (the original album had the title track in two parts, which have been reassembled here). The original soundtrack album was one of the finest non-orchestral soundtrack records of its era -- no surprise, since Guthrie also helped play and write much of the instrumental background music in the film (Garry Sherman did some composing and arranging as well), much of which is pleasant, unassuming instrumental folk and folk-rock with some blues and country accents, broken up by a group a cappella version of "Amazing Grace" and a Joni Mitchell soundalike (Tigger Outlaw) singing Mitchell's "Songs to Aging Children."
