Duke_J SUBS 1st Dec 2021		78 RPM Josephine Baker et les Comedian Harmonists - Sous Le Ciel D'Afrique / Espabilate (1935)	Josephine Baker was honoured at the Panthéon in Paris yesterday, the first black woman to receive one of the highest honours in France. She worked in France for the resistance to the Nazi occupation, and in her native USA she worked for the abolishment of racial segregation. The ceremony was reported on the news in the UK, accompanied for no obvious reason by a speeded up version of one of her records, which made her sound like some sort of freak like Bridget The Midget. In fact she had a very fine voice, using the French vibrato style of the time which we all know from singers like Édith Piaf [YouTube Video]
