The Clovers - One Mint Julep / Middle Of The Night (1952)
Thanks for the reply, fixbutte.

It may seem as though I'm nitpicking about an inferior label scan being deleted, but it is about much more than that. Let me try to explain.

The goal of this site is to try and get as many owners of 78rpm records to upload to the site as possible. The more people who upload scans to this site, the better the site is for everyone. Yeah, I know, I'm being Captain Obvious, but there's a reason.

If a member spends the time and energy that it takes to upload scans to this site, even if the label is marked and stickered up, or even if the scans are not of super quality, that member feels a sense of accomplishment. Since nobody is getting paid for doing these scans, that sense of accomplishment is pretty much all we have.

So then you take LaurenceD's scans, which he took some time scanning and uploading, and you make them disappear, what is his incentive to do the work to upload another record?

Even in your example, fixbutte, of the Amos Milburn record. When you did your gamma correction, or whatever, to the scan that was uploaded by 55bluesman, it now says that you uploaded the scan, when the credit should still go to 55bluesman. Where it says "Uploaded By: fixbutte", it should say "Uploaded By: 55bluesman", and where it says "Description" it should read "A side edited by fixbutte". That would be the correct way to handle this. That way the people who did the original scans, and the original work, will get proper credit for their work. Otherwise I can see members just throwing up their hands and saying screw this, other people are deleting my scans or taking credit for my work, I'm outta here.

That's not what the site wants or needs.

Thanks for the reply, RadnaNotions.

I did notice that LaurenceD's scans had been edited (replaced). That brings up two points.

First, I didn't think a member could edit a scan put up by another member without a moderator's approval. Which leads to the second point...

If a member can replace another member's scans, it would act as a disincentive to add scans to this site at all, knowing that another member can, at will, take them out. As all of the members here know, it is quite a chore to create a decent set of scans to upload here. No one's scans should be taken off without really good cause, and only then by a moderator. Hidden, yes, if a better copy comes along, but deleted, no.

As of this writing, all four of the scans on this page are of the same record.

If, as DJA1969 says, his labels are cleaner, then where are LaurenceD scans?? They should be hidden but still available to view, no??

If these are all LaurenceD's scans, then where are DJA1969's labels??

Roy "Bald Head" Byrd - Rockin' With Fes / Gone So Long (1952)
Reviewed by BB in their May 31, 1952 issue, where it got less than a stellar welcome. I think it's fair to say that it has become more appreciated as the years have gone by.

The Dominoes - Have Mercy Baby / Deep Sea Blues (1952)
Added label variation of the "Have Mercy Baby" side, and added label scan for the "Deep Sea Blues" side. Going by the matrix numbers, the "Deep Sea Blues" side would seem to be the intended "A" side, but if you notice the 45rpm in the YouTube video, there is a "AA" after the record number on the "Have Mercy Baby" side and that usually designates the "A" side for the early Federal labels, so I don't know.

A mention of this release in the BB April 19, 1952 issue, and a review of both tracks in the April 26th edition.

Bob Roberts - Tickle Me (1905)
With the lack of information available on this release, I've used the date at the bottom of the label on the reverse as the release date, although it is probable that this record was issued sometime after that date.

Some interesting information on the U.S. Zon-O-Phone company can be found on its Wiki page and here.

Johnny Long - All The Way Choo Choo / University Of North Carolina Medley (1949)
The "Choo Choo" referred to on the "A" side is Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice, A US Football player who played college ball for the University of North Carolina before turning pro for the Washington Redskins.

Also, the "A" side vocals by Janet Brace, the Glee Club, and the Longshots.
