Mantovani - The Best Of Everything / It Was Love (1959)
A side label not crudely edited - just printed off-centre.

Billy Williams - When Father Papered The Parlour / Don't Go Out With Him Tonight (1913)
I apologise for the awfully worn label - hopefully a better copy will turn up in due course.

George Moxey And His Calypso Quintet - You Got To Pay / Time For A Change (1954)
Correct me if I'm wrong Charlie, but weren't these 78s pressed in the UK, with intent to export them to the West Indies?

Desmond Dekker And The Aces - 007 / El Torro (1967)
Makes you wonder if "Al Capone" by Prince Buster or "Guns Of Navarone " by the Skatalites would have been pressed on 78 in SA.

Enrico Caruso - O Sole Mio (My Sunshine) / La Donna E Mobile (Woman Is Fickle) (1933)
Both of these are re-recordings with an electronically-recorded orchestra dubbed on to Caruso's original acoustically recorded vocals.

Betty Wells, Bill Marine And The Playmates - Gingerbread Man / Little Brave Sambo (1962)
Also issued on Happy Time. Interesting, as it looks like Dandy (who clearly had something to do with Cricket Records - check their back cover), must have had a deal with Pickwick, who distributed Happy Time in the UK.

David Price, John Edwards - Bugail Aberdyfi / Cartref (1958)
Looking at the "all rights reserved" text around the label rim, it bears a striking resemblence to the same text used on Philips 78s in the UK. I wonder if this was pressed by Philips? I dare say it was probably only sold in Wales at the time of its release.

Rena Military Band - The Birds And The Brook / The Jolly Coppersmith (1909)
The confusing world of acoustically recorded 78s!

Rena Military Band - The Birds And The Brook / The Jolly Coppersmith (1909)
The strange thing about this is, although credited to the Rena Military Band, the spoken announcement at the start of the record says "The Birds And The Brook, by the Columbia Orchestra"!

David Seville And The Chipmunks - Ragtime Cowboy Joe / Flip Side (1959)
Label scans added. Not crudely edited - just printed slightly off-centre.

[no artist listed] - Nightingale / Cuckoo (1936)
This is "Record Made By A Captive Nightingale" by Herr Carl Reich from 1910, mentioned in the notes - but it should give you some idea of what my test pressing sounds like.

Martinas And His Music - Cha Cha Momma Brown / My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean (1958)
Martinas is none other than the late, great Martin Slavin.

Sandy Powell - Sandy's Happy Home (1933)
I can never understand how this was supposed to be 'humorous'. Sandy plays the part of a no-good drunk who goes drinking every night, leaving his poor, long-suffering wife at home alone. The sketch ends with his wife being shot dead by a burglar, and then he offers to take the burglar to go and shoot his mother-in-law. Perhaps that's was why it was one of his last Broadcast 78s?

Sandy Powell - Sandy, The Magistrate Part I / Sandy, The Magistrate Part II (1932)
Alternative label design with VGC logo and 'Broadcast' in gold shading added.

The Platters - (You've Got) The Magic Touch / Winner Take All (1956)
This is, in my opinion, one of their best '50s records, and I can never understand why it wasn't a hit in the UK!

Charles Penrose - The Laughing Policeman (Laughing Song) / Laughter And Lemons (1935)
This must have remained on catalogue for at least 20 years after its original release in 1926.

Constant Lambert - Romeo and Juliet Overture (1941)
Constant Lambert was the father of the late Kit Lambert, producer for The Who, Jimi Hendrix et al.

Ruby Murray - I'll Come When You Call / It's The Irish In Me (1955)
Probably one of very few (or maybe the only one) of Ruby's 78s that never got a 45 release at the time, aside from being one of the tracks on the "Everybody's Sweetheart" EP.

This record plays outwards from the centre.

Teddy Johnson And Pearl Carr - Sing Little Birdie / If Only I Could Live My Life Again (1959)
"Yes it was indeed, well challenged"!

Doris Day - Pretty Baby / Confess (1948)
Judging by the MC number, I think this was intended for export - though not sure to which country.
