Sam Cooke - You Send Me / Summertime (1957)
I'd just seen this 78 today... Could not believe my eyes at first.. a little beat up, but looks playable. It's gotta be worth $5, right?

The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand / This Boy (1963)
Just seen a YouTube video.. some guy playing the Indian Parlophone 78 pressing of "This Boy" on a very early Victrola VI... Saying that I'm having rather mixed feelings about this is an understatement..

Harry James - Ain't Misbehavin' / 9:20 Special (1945)
Hey fellas... This YouTube clip by the78prof of the Columbia 9:20 Special pressing is not the same as my Columbia pressing... There are several very noticeable differences.. in the trumpet solo, the sax solo.. even the piano solo near the end of the song.. and I can prove it! Go to YouTube, and listen to the video that Kevin Gardner posted playing the pressing on the 60's Magnavox portable. That's the pressing I own! Also.. the video by Joseph T. Porter on a late 30's Radiola, and two videos posted by Mac NOMURA, played on a pair of acoustic Victrolas.. these are also the pressing that I own! So... Is there another "take" that was released on perhaps an LP by Columbia?

Harry James - Ain't Misbehavin' / 9:20 Special (1945)
Ahh... The trumpet solo about 30 seconds into the tune is a dead giveaway, now that I've heard them side by side... And the brass section sounds a little brighter on the V-Disc as compared to the Columbia pressing.

Harry James - Ain't Misbehavin' / 9:20 Special (1945)
My question is... Is this the same recording of 9:20 Special as on V-Disc 518a?

Lefty Frizzell - I Love You A Thousand Ways / If You've Got The Money I've Got The Time (1950)
Wow.. that recording BigBadBluesMan has on YouTube doesn't sound like my copy at all!! I'll have to look into this. The pressing I own has a faster tempo, and features an electric guitar solo. Now I know why! The Lefty Frizzell pressing I own is titled "If You Can Spare The Time", Columbia 20950 from 1952..

Capt Glenn Miller And The Army Air Forces Training Command Orchestra - Everybody Loves My Baby (But My Baby Don't Love Nobody But Me) / Stompin' At The Savoy (1944)
Ahh.. OK! Good luck on finding a V-Disc near mint!! I was lucky enough to find a collection in a antique store with the pressings in playable condition for $7-8 a piece! A little info on this particular pressing.. both A side tunes, "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "Stompin' at The Savoy" were broadcast on May 20, 1944 from NBC's Vanderbilt Theater in New York. Live feed from this broadcast was recorded onto 16" 33 1/3 rpm "safeties". These transcription discs were sent to the V-Disc offices in New York, and were thus shortly later dubbed into a 12" 78 rpm master for V-Disc production and pressed at RCA's Camden facility. The B side, "Stealin' Apples" was from a earlier V-Disc recording session at RCA studios in New York on January 21, 1944.

Capt Glenn Miller And The Army Air Forces Training Command Orchestra - Everybody Loves My Baby (But My Baby Don't Love Nobody But Me) / Stompin' At The Savoy (1944)
My favorite Glenn Miller recording that wasn't released on Bluebird/Victor. The $60 valuation..would that be for a relatively "clean" copy? My copy would not be in the "mint" category, but plays very nicely, when you consider the playback equipment these discs were subjected to!!

The Crew-Cuts - Sh-Boom / I Spoke Too Soon (1954)
I had a very nice copy of Nat King Cole's Unforgettable that slipped out of my hands after playing it one nite.. that one fared a lot worse. That explains why there's only the A side label, eh?

Mel Blanc - Yosemite Sam / I Taut I Taw A Puddy Tat (1951)
Actually.. this was a hit record for Mel Blanc.. on the Hit Parade, 1951. I found the 7 inch 45 at a antique shop in excellent shape. I gave it to a friend of mine that's a big Mel Blanc/Looney Toons fan... So, yeah.. I've heard it.

Erna Sack - Voices Of Spring / The Nightingale
I once had this pressing, and the album it came in! It was a very good sounding recording, for sure! As for the date.. I don't remember seeing any copyright dates, but it probably wasn't too long after WWII.. because the records stated that it was recorded in Europe, and not Germany. I do see that Telefunken did release this recording in the UK in 1935.

Glenn Miller - Sunrise Serenade / Moonlight Serenade (1939)
Thanks to the information below, and the info Xiphophilos provided on a Metronome All Stars Victor pressing, I should now be able to give an approximate date on all my Victor/Bluebird/RCA Victor 78 pressings, as well as identify the pressing plant. I must admit that I didn't know too much on the history of RCA's Indianapolis plant before hand. Being from the Detroit area, it will be interesting to see which pressing plants my copies originated from! My guess would be Indianapolis for discs pressed in 1939 and later.. but, you never can tell!

Excellent information, xiphophilos! Does this also apply to the Bluebird label? I do know that Bluebird was gone when the change over to RCA Victor occurred.
