Billy Daniels - That Ol' Black Magic / I Concentrate On You (1951)
Redd Foxx said on one of his "laff" records... "What if Billy Daniels sang "That Ol' White Magic"? You'd have drove off the freeway when you heard it!"...

Metronome All Star Band - Bugle Call Rag / One O'Clock Jump (1941)
I see one is a 1943 repress.. because of the RCA meatball, and it states RCA Victor division of Radio Corporation of America..

Bobby Wayne - Let Me In / Wild Card (1951)
Yes.. I made a new entry after seeing my mistake. I've noticed a couple of US London pressings that use the same dark blue label color as the UK pressing. You have to look close at the label to spot the differences

Bobby Wayne - Let Me In / Wild Card (1951)
Sonically, this record sounds better than anything I've heard on 78 up to the mid 50's. Although it doesn't state so on the record, it's definitely a full-frequency range recording! I added this to the London US listing, as I previously thought that my copy was from the UK.

[no artist listed] - Devoted To You / It's All In The Game
First off, other than the V-DISC 78s, this is the only other time that I've run across a 78 in a EP type format, even if the songs are somewhat abbreviated. Secondly, upon inspection of the grooves themselves, they seem to be very fine.. unlike a regular 78.. maybe even microgroove. But, when played with a 0.6 conical stylus, these records have a bit if hiss..as if someone had already played them with the wrong stylus. I've read on 45cat that this may be Richard Lanham and the Tempo-tones, but have yet to confirm this... Anyone that can shed some light on this would be appreciated!

[no artist listed] - [no title] (1948)
This is a 6 1/2 inch aluminum backed acetate disc manufactured by the Wilcox Gay Corporation from Charlotte, Michigan for use on their Recordio disc recorders. I have also seen laminated wood backed Recordio discs with a clear acetate cutting surface.

The Three Stooges - Wreck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly / Jingle Bells (1960)
I see that Curly Joe DeRita is on the sleeve..so this must have been recorded in 1959 or later...

Golden Gate Orchestra [California Ramblers] - Shake / What A Man! (1926)
Forgot about that.. I went with the matrix number being lower on the A side...

Montana Taylor - Indiana Avenue Stomp / Head Rag Hop (1952)
So... I'm guessing that this release of Montana Taylor's Indiana Avenue Stomp is the same as his Vocalion 1419 release from 1929....

I like "swingin' in a hammock"... Pretty neat tune

Gene Autry - There's An Empty Cot In The Bunkhouse Tonight / Louisiana Moon (1938)
Right now, this is the only Vocalion 78 in my collection.. and I felt lucky to find this! Does anyone know if this version of "empty cot in the bunkhouse" is the same recording as either the Brunswick 12936 1933 pressing, or the Conquerer 8191 1934 pressing? If it is the same as the Brunswick, that would make sense, for at that time both Brunswick and Vocalion were under the American Record Corporation ..

Nat "King" Cole - Unforgettable / Pretend (1954)
I owned this at one time, but it became an unfortunate casualty when it slipped from my hand about 28 years ago... Ouch!!!

Boyd Raeburn - How High The Moon / Trouble Is A Man (1948)
When I found this 78, I bought it because of the label.. I didn't have any Atlantic issues on 78 at all. I was familiar with the Ella Fitzgerald version, but not this version. Got it home, and played it.. and it became my favorite rendition! Ginny Powell's voice is awesome, and fits in with the band perfectly.. a must hear, in my opinion.

Pete Johnson And Albert Ammons - Foot Pedal Boogie / Movin' The Boogie (1941)
This is the 1943 reissue pressing.. the RCA "meatball" is on the bottom of the label. '41 pressing doesn't have this, and states RCA Manufacturing Company Camden NJ.

Hmm.. the top scans are the 1943 "meatball" pressings. I added a 1941 pressing of Barrel House Boogie. Oops, it's a little sideways! Could someone fix that for me? Thanks!!

Cab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher / I'll Get By (1953)
I have a decent copy of this... I'll have to snap a pic of the label.. interesting, as this is a microgroove 78, but also molded in styrene, as all Bell records were from 1952 through the 70s.

The Everly Brothers - Wake Up Little Susie / Maybe Tomorrow (1957)
Mine is the darker label, top right. Plays a little slow to my ears, I speed up my turntable so it sounds right. So..it's an RCA pressing... Very interesting...

Charlie Parker - Almost Like Being In Love / What Is This Thing Called Love (1954)
There used to be a record store called Cappy's that basically specialized in 78s... I bought most of my Glenn Miller 78s there. Been years since I was there, like around the mid 90s. It was on E. 8 Mile, on the Detroit / St. Clair Shores border

Charlie Parker - Almost Like Being In Love / What Is This Thing Called Love (1954)
After searching Detroit area record shops and antique stores for any Charlie Parker 78s for a long long time, I finally found this gem at a city wide rummage sale at Yack Arena in Wyandotte Mich about 6 years ago. I believe that I paid a whole 25 cents for it. Obviously not an easy one to find..

The King Cole Trio - Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good To You / I Realize Now (1944)
My copy of this record has the Scranton "anvil"... So it must be a reissue? Capitol opened the Scranton pressing plant in 1947....

Pete Johnson And Albert Ammons - 8 to the Bar (1941)
I own both the '41 issue, and the '43 reissue. The '41 issue is missing Pine Creek/Sixth Avenue Express.. it was broken when I was a teenager. :( Looking for its replacement.. I see none of the above scans are the '41 issue.. without the RCA "meatball".
