LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jan 2017 | | 78 RPMDave Brubeck Trio - Laura / Indiana (1949) | djhotwax, I merged your entry with this existing one. The labels on yours are a bit different, however, so it's good to have those as well.

LaurenceD SUBS 1st Jan 2017 | | 78 RPMEl Brendel - Yumpin' Yiminy / Pinch Of Snoose (1950) | Listening to Yumpin' Yiminy brought back a vague childhood memory of having seen El Brendel's Swedish persona, although I'm not sure if it was from a film or a later TV appearance.
There's some information about these recordings here at this excellent site dedicated to this comedian.

LaurenceD SUBS 20th Dec 2016 | | 78 RPMTalkin’ Charlie Aldrich - Kinsey's Book / Somebody Goofed (1953) | Added scans of my copy which credits the artist as just Charlie Aldrich, and omits the composer credit for Phil Tuminello.

LaurenceD SUBS 5th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPMQuatuor "In Cimbalis Bene Sonantibus" - Largo (1re Partie) / Largo (2e Partie) | Ah, I see what you did there, xiphophilos - yes, that makes more sense. That is an unusual name that they chose for themselves.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPMQuatuor "In Cimbalis Bene Sonantibus" - Largo (1re Partie) / Largo (2e Partie) | Speculating here, but Haydn did compose a number of choral works based on psalms, and the title "In Cimbalis Bene Sonantibus" would seem to come from psalm 150:5. That would explain this work being released on a label for sacred music, although it's been arranged for string quartet.
Can't confirm this theory though, as I'm not aware that he composed music for that particular psalm. I've got a catalogue of his compositions somewhere, I'll have another look.

LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMCharles And Gay Warner - Through / Now I Care | copyright for Through & Now I Care: w Richard Otto Russell m John S. Dobson / May 29, 1951
I'm presuming that this is a USA release, as I could find no information about the artists or label.

LaurenceD SUBS 11th May 2016 | | 78 RPMTimmie Rogers And Excelsior Hep Cats - Bring Enough Clothes For Three Days / At Least You Could Save Me A Dream (1945) | I don't suppose that the Three Shades Of Rhythm are related to the Four Shades Of Rhythm...
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMThe Johnny Creach Trio - Danny Boy / It's You In My Heart (1951) | The first Dootone release, and "Papa John" Creach's first recording under his own name, if I'm not mistaken.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMSpike Jones And His City Slickers - William Tell Overture / By The Beautiful Sea (1948) | From what I can gather, some folks were convinced that By The Beautiful Sea contained some off-color lyrics, and as a result this b-side was quickly replaced with The Man On The Flying Trapeze. As I listen to it, I must admit to being mystified as to what they thought they heard.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMDick Winslow - Let's Play Jack And Jill / The Old Water Wheel | The husband and wife team of Dick Winslow on piano and Alice Tyrell (usually spelled Tyrrell) on vocals was a popular nightclub act, and active from 1947-1953 if not longer.

LaurenceD SUBS 28th Feb 2016 | | 78 RPMBuddy Greco And His Three Sharps - Ooh! Look-a There, Ain't She Pretty / Don't You Think I Ought To Know (1947) | (From a Sunday Express interview) Buddy said this about his initial release:
“When I finally made my first record Oh Look-A-There Ain’t She Pretty at the age of 17, it sold over a million copies. I thought I would buy my parents a house with the royalty cheque but when it arrived it was only $33. The company president had taken the money and run.”

LaurenceD SUBS 9th Feb 2016 | | 78 RPMFord Orchestra - Hinky-Dinky, Parlee-Voo / Life On The Ocean Wave | The "Early American Dances" label was started by Dick Moore in late 1951 or early 1952, mainly to distribute Henry Ford's dance recordings.

LaurenceD SUBS 18th Jan 2016 | | 78 RPMSam Ash - Don't Leave Me Mammy / A Sleepy Little Village (Where The Dixie Cotton Grows) (1922) | Co-lyricist Buddy De Sylva mis-credited as "deSylvia" on A-side.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Dec 2015 | | 78 RPMVarious Artists - The History of Jazz Vol. 4: This Modern Age (1945) | Wondering if Capitol Criterion should be a sub-label unto itself. It does have its own numbering sequence.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Dec 2015 | | 78 RPMLillian Long - The Peddle Song / Little Lass Round-Up | The (parent) Superb label was active from mid-1949 through 1950, so that suggests when this record may have been released. There is a Gayety label mentioned in Billboard, March 3 1951, but I'm not sure if it's this one.
LaurenceD SUBS 20th Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMGeorge E. Lee - If I Could Be With You / Paseo Street (1930) | I'm guessing it's George on the vocal for If I Could Be With You, but I'm not positive.
LaurenceD SUBS 12th Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMSonny Thompson With The Sharps And Flats - Long Gone (Part I) / Long Gone (Part II) (1948) | The May 15 Billboard article describes the 'counterfeits' allegedly distributed by Millner thusly: "bogus copies of Long Gone carry an orangish-red background with smeary printing, while the legal copies carry clear printing in a deep maroon backing".
I would be interested in seeing one of these counterfeit pressings, if any are still around...
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMBobby "Blue" Bland - Bobby's Blues / Teach Me (How To Love You) (1958) | Added variant A-side scan from a Monarch pressing, deltas are Δ20332 / Δ20332 (same on both sides). The B-side label is identical to that of image 669780.

LaurenceD SUBS 15th Sep 2015 | | 78 RPMThe Five Hollywood Blue Jays - So Worried / Cloudy And Raining (1952) | There was a later Hollywood Bluejays release (I Had A Love/Tell Me You Love Me on Recorded In Hollywood 396), but that was actually by the Debonairs, featuring Cornel Gunter. This seems to be a different group, personnel unknown. Apparently RIH owner John Dolphin just recycled the group name.
Release date estimated, could be early 1952.
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMStan Williams - Hair Of Gold / Come Back To Sorento (1948) | A bit frustrating trying to find information about this bandleader named Stan Williams. Perhaps he's the same one who led Stan Williams and his Blue Marines, a Canadian WWII-era band?
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMSkylarks - Dream Away / My Own True Love | These Skylarks do sound like the same ones who recorded "I Had The Craziest Dream" on RCA Victor (a white male/female mixed vocal group), so I grouped them together. I could find no information about this release, though. Probably 1948 or 1949.
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMLil Parker - You Call Everybody Darlin' / The Man I Love (1949) | I created a small bio for this Rex label, from what what I could dig up from Galen Gart's ARLD and Billboard.
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMSonny Burke - What, Where And When / Mambo Jambo (1950) | "Mambo Jambo" was titled "Qué Rico El Mambo" on Perez Prado's original release.
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMMoon Mullican - I'll Sail My Ship Alone / Moon's Tune (1949) | Added an alternate B-side scan. The A-side of my copy matches Tailspin’s image 742596.
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMBertha "Chippie" Hill - Trouble In Mind / How Long Blues (1946) | It appears that these sides were included in a 2-disc Circle album, along with J-1004 (Careless Love/Charleston Blues). The discs might also have been sold separately, not sure.
