Matthew Rose 6th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMGus Jenkins - Hit The Road / Road Runner (1958) | Great record! My Turkish Angora cat Whitey always perks up when I play it.
Matthew Rose 8th Apr 2024 | | 78 RPMMindy Carson - Memories Are Made Of This / Cryin' For Your Kisses (1955) | I always liked this version a lot more than the one by Dean Martin.
Matthew Rose 7th Apr 2024 | | 78 RPMFrank Sinatra - Five Minutes More / How Cute Can You Be? (1946) | This record was released on my birthday, but 48 years earlier.
Matthew Rose 25th Mar 2024 | | 78 RPMThe Crew-Cuts - Hey, Stella! (Who Zat Down Your Cellar?) / Forever, My Darling (1958) | The was likely the penultimate RCA Victor 78 issued in the US.
Matthew Rose 12th Mar 2023 | | 78 RPMJesse Belvin - Funny / Pledging My Love (1958) | @Whyperion I have a copy of the Canadian pressing in probably close to E condition. RCA Victor pressed 78s in Canada until May of 1960, almost a year and a half later than in the US. My latest pressing Canadian RCA Victor 78s are “Delaware” by Perry Como and a French Canadian cover version of the Jim Reeves song “He’ll Have To Go” by Roger Miron.
Matthew Rose 28th Nov 2022 | | 78 RPMBuddy Holly - I'm Gonna Love You Too / Listen To Me (1958) | This was likely the last Coral 78 issued in the US. Decca continued making 78s into August of 1958 and Brunswick until early 1959 however.
Matthew Rose 29th Sep 2022 | | 78 RPMThe Drifters - This Magic Moment / Baltimore (1960) | Was this even out on 78 or no? My mom kind or remembers seeing a 78 of it in an ancient Wurlitzer 1015 jukebox way back in 1960, though she was 3 years old back then and might have confused it with another Atlantic 78 by the Drifters.
Matthew Rose 29th Sep 2022 | | 78 RPMThe Drifters - I Know / Yodee Yakee (1957) | I only paid $2 for this 78 in great shape at the Fall 2022 Mechanical Music Extravaganza, so I guess I got a good deal. My friend Phil Kolber also got a copy for the same price and the same shape at the same show as me as well.
Matthew Rose 15th Aug 2022 | | 78 RPMThe Beatles - Hey Jude / Revolution | Had the introduction of the LP and 45 RPM record been delayed until 1957 or 1958 (the year stereo records were first introduced) for some reason, then this 78 would have been a reality and about as common as Elvis RCA 78s are today.
Matthew Rose 7th Aug 2022 | | 78 RPMPat Boone - Love Letters In The Sand / Bernardine (1957) | I would say that the only rare Pat Boone 78s are some of his later American pressings or his Canada only releases from 1959, though $10 or $15 seems to be where they max out at in terms of value.
Matthew Rose 6th Aug 2022 | | 78 RPMThe Platters - The Great Pretender / I'm Just A Dancing Partner (1955) | @ GimmeVinyl I just found an extra copy of this 78 as well in pretty decent shape (it was included with some free 78s I got from a family friends late father). I have 2 mint copies already, so I can possibly list it on eBay and get $10 or $15 for it.
Matthew Rose 15th Jul 2022 | | 78 RPMPat Boone - Love Letters In The Sand / Bernardine (1957) | How is this 78 worth $338? Most copies I’ve seen have sold for under $1.
Matthew Rose 4th May 2022 | | 78 RPMRCA Victor Orchestra - Run, Run / Ring Around The Rosy (1951) | The label indicates that this was recorded in 1951, but the label design suggests a much later pressing.
Matthew Rose 4th May 2022 | | 78 RPMRCA Victor Orchestra - March Of The Little Lead Soldiers / Petite Suite (1951) | The label indicates that this was recorded in 1951, but the label design suggests a much later pressing.
Matthew Rose 4th May 2022 | | 78 RPMRCA Victor Orchestra - Lullaby / Little Sandman (1951) | The label indicates that this was recorded in 1951, but the label design suggests a much later pressing.
Matthew Rose 13th Mar 2022 | | 78 RPMBill Haley And His Comets - Lean Jean / Don't Nobody Move (1958) | @ 23skidoo I am pretty sure this was Billy Haley’s last 78 in the US, as Decca stopped producing 78s in the US in August of 1958 with “The End” by Earl Grant likely being its last 78 release.
Matthew Rose 28th Dec 2021 | | 78 RPMConnie Francis - Among My Souvenirs / God Bless America (1959) | Any confirmation MGM made 78s in the US this late? The latest American pressing MGM 78 I know of is from October of 1958.
Matthew Rose 11th Dec 2021 | | 78 RPMVáclav Albrecht A Spol - Mr. Vokurka Opět Doma (Mr. Pickle Home Again) / Party Na Mr. Vokurka (A Party In Mr. Pickle's Home) (1927) | The “Mistr Vokurka” series of recording are some of my favorite Czech or Bohemian 78s. They are reminiscent of the “Uncle Josh” series of recordings made by Cal Stewart for labels such as Berliner, Victor, Columbia, Edison, and many others from 1897-1919.
Matthew Rose 11th Dec 2021 | | 78 RPMVáclav Albrecht A Spol - Mistr Vokurka Ve Stare Country (Mister Pickle In The Old Country) / Mistr Vokurka Uz Jede Zpatky (Mister Pickle Returning To America) (1927) | The “Mistr Vokurka” series of recording are some of my favorite Czech or Bohemian 78s. They are reminiscent of the “Uncle Josh” series of recordings made by Cal Stewart for labels such as Berliner, Victor, Columbia, Edison, and many others from 1897-1919.

Matthew Rose 5th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMWilbert Harrison - Kansas City / Listen, My Darling (1959) | I also noticed that both the 78 and 45 copies pressed by Fury have a noticeable background hum on them. Perhaps there was an issue with the original tape master recording of “Kansas City”?
Matthew Rose 28th Sep 2021 | | 78 RPMWilbert Harrison - Kansas City / Listen, My Darling (1959) | @ slholzer My copy is yellow with the illustrated design. I believe it might be a later pressing.
Matthew Rose 28th Jun 2021 | | 78 RPMJohnny Cash And The Tennessee Two - Goodbye Little Darlin' / You Tell Me (1959) | Was this the last Quality 78 release? It would be something if Quality made 78s into mid-1960, as that would have meant that “Image Of A Girl” by the Safaris could have been released on a 78.
Matthew Rose 23rd Jun 2021 | | 78 RPMPerry Como - Kewpie Doll / Dance Only With Me (1958) | I think that this was Perry Como’s last 78 issued in the US. On paper, “Moon Talk” would have been a 78 release, but no known copies of it seem to have surfaced.
Matthew Rose 15th Jun 2021 | | CylinderEffie Stewart And John Mitthauer - My Love And I (1889) | @jmg105 That is really cool! Does your family have any of his early recordings or any documentation from his early recording career with Edison? John Mitthauer was one of the early recording stars for Edison back in 1889 and made a lot of recordings that year.

Matthew Rose 21st May 2021 | | 78 RPMRoberto Jordan Con Los Signos - Confesiones De Medianoche (Midnight Confessions) / Amor De Estudiante (1969) | This record was issued in 1969, but the year of release option only goes up to 1966. Can the 1969 release year be added in by the moderators?
Matthew Rose 20th May 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Drifters - Fools Fall In Love / It Was A Tear (1957) | This is a killer record! Probably my favorite by the Drifters.
