Whyperion SUBS 5th Feb 2013		78 RPM Clarkson Rose - Come In, Mr. Cummin' / Mucking About The Garden (1929)	I think I got this as one in a pile from a Junk shop in Redruth. The B Side title has the G and not a '. I believe that song was written , in words , by , or for , Marie Lloyd. Supposedly altering for the Lord Chamberlain's Office ( or local censor ? ) , ' He sits among the Cabbages and Peas ' to , 'He goes amongst the Cauliflowers and Leeks' . Mr Cumber from memory I think had the Cabbages line included. The Follow up line is ' Watching His Onion's Grow. '
Whyperion SUBS 5th Feb 2013		78 RPM Marion Anderson - Deep River (Negro Sprititual) / I Don't Feel Always Tired (1939)	I always thought I had enlarged the central hole on this due to spinning it round using a 2 year old finger on top of the auto-changer spindle ( on the ledge bit ) , maybe it was taken out to remove the tax code ending ? unlikely as an oval played 78 looks odd and sounds interesting ( same applies to 2 others in the parent's collection.

I have estimated 1940 could be +/- a year, correct and PM if anyone knows better. No tax code printed or visible stamps , this could have been one where the PT was dealt with by stamp on the jacket?

Whyperion SUBS 5th Feb 2013		78 RPM Geraldo - Somewhere In The Night / I Love An Old Fashioned Song (1946)	In these early days of 78rpm again I am surprised that not more Geraldo ( This One , And His Orchestra ), have been entered , with this only being the fifth I can see ? Again , a pair of tunes that seem to have been overlooked in the constant re-hashes to other 1940s/1950s classics by more modern pop-stars 'discovering' the great song books. Whyperion SUBS 5th Feb 2013		78 RPM Louis Armstrong With Jimmy Dorsey - Dipper Mouth Blues / If We Never Meet Again (1936)	I think Stephen Poliakoff's Dramatisation has to be seen like many productions , as firstly a Drama and not a documentary. I think the lead character has been inspired to an extent by Leslie Hutchinson (Hutch) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Hutchinson. Not being part of 'Society' or around in the 1930s I cannot wholly comment. Once my list of recorded music has been completed its fairly clear that of the 78s I have acquired and retained that the popular music in many households was a good mix of the Radio Dance Bands and popular film tracks along with 'comedy' records from the 1920s to the late 1940s. Music was often UK Band Leaders re-recording American writers material, and although many in my family would not attend dances , being strongly involved in independent religious movements in the 1920s , mum reminds me that one of her cousins ( there were about 44 to choose from ) , used to go to dances at the local Palais De Dance. If the series awakes interest in the music of the time that I think is good, if it wanders into people taking a fictional dramatisation as fact then thats not good. No doubt some will watch to ensure the microphones, dress styles etc are all correct for the era and year have been correctly represented.

I suppose the only possible problem for some youtube productions is replaying electric recorded discs on acoustic equipment and acoustics on electrics , but one cannot expect from most home owners such perfect matching and I more than grateful to others as my own 78 1950's autochangers are currently out of service.

(1916)	I didn't realise the George ( Senior ) had TB ( Lungs ) , and he used the catchphrase ' Coughing Better This Morning ' in his act. The phrase often used in our household when slight , niggling coughs about ( or bouts of bronchitis ). Did we get the phrase from him ?

Whyperion SUBS 2nd Feb 2013		78 RPM Derek Oldham - Macushla / The Night Has A Thousand Eyes (1929)	My copy damage to B Side label ( chunk out of B Side Hole Spreading to detail) Damage prob caused by misplacing on spindle or autochanger. http://www.charm.kcl.ac.uk/discography gives two recording dates for A Side , with Piano by Miss Swale . It appears from their that the 28/02/1928 recording was used. Do date of release could be 1928 but the Feb 1928 Date I would take from their site as Date of Recording , not date of issue

Bit like what a Woody Herman might do to the tune ? Any chance of doing the A Side as I have never sat through the film. Thanks
