I bought my first record in 1968 (Elvis Golden Records Vol.4, I still have it). A big part of my collection is black stuff (R&B, Blues, Soul) from the late 40ties to the early 80ties, but I´m no purist. I also have many R&R, rock, pop, country, latin, jazz and german oldies in my collection.
@mat5an: Blues Records 1943-1970 Vol. 2 gives 1945 as recording date for both songs; in the discography of CLASSICS 5119 (Julia Lee 1927 -1946 recordings) is the date 16th and 18th August 1945 for the songs listed.
from liner notes by Fred James (SPV CD 49982 "Bullet Records Rhythm & Blues):
"This is actually Rufus Thomas singing with the (moonlighting) Lionel Hampton Band in 1950. Plater played alto sax with that group. This was a "one off" recording while Hampton was on tour, though Lionel isn´t on this session."
