Fascinating stuff. Actually I hadn't heard of Laura Duncan before, and I have made a screenshot of the mentioned autobiography by George Wein from Google Books for further information.

I have also added a blurry image of the record's A-side label.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information that I've been able to pull up on the web regarding Laura Duncan.

In fact, the only mention of note on this New York based Afro-American jazz singer came from the autobiography of Geoge Wein, "Myself Among Others: A Life In Music."

Wein, the founder of the Newport Jazz Festival and co-founder of the Newport Folk Festival, describes her as a very talented young singer at the time of their initial meeting. However, she also was the official vocalist of the New York Communist Party, featured at many of Henry Wallace's (former vice president under F. D. R. and endorsed by the Communist Party) rallies during his run in the presidential race of 1948.

The Red Scare, the rise of McCarthyism, blacklisting, FBI surveillance and all of the fear-mongering tied into that era obviously squashed whatever success she was able to obtain.

Any discographical information related to any label which may have featured her is lacking. Other than a very short list of a Laura Duncan being a cast member of several Broadway productions during the 1930s (which may or may not be the same woman), there is no further biographical information to be found.
