Both sides were recorded in Richmond, Indiana - "Canal Street Blues" on 5 April 1923 and "Dipper Mouth Blues" the following day. King Oliver and Louis Armstrong play cornet, and Lil Hardin, who Armstrong would marry the following year, is on piano.
Armstrong re-recorded these two songs for the first two tracks on his 1957 4-LP memoir "Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography".
