Otherwise, the text shows that the writer didn't know much about 78s, especially the comment about needle-cut vs. sapphire-cut records.

The speaker was probably not "Babe" Ruth himself but recording pioneer and "elocutionist" Russell Hunting who set up Pathé's U.S. branch in 1914 and was the recording director of its New York studio until 1922:

Based on contemporary newspaper accounts, however, Babe Ruth got paid $5,000 to speak into the horn.
