The recording angel was the logo of the Gramophone Company until it adopted the picture of Nipper in 1908. The company remained the Gramophone Company but the label came to be known (colloquially at least) as His Master's Voice.

The etching from the 78 uploaded is still in use by the USA & Canada "Angel" label.
The label appears to be their equivalent to the UK "His Master's Voice" label.

I have uploaded a small scan from the inner sleeve of a Canadian album and the figure is almost identical.

No problem xiphophilos. It became the oldest record in my collection by 20 years! My knowledge of 1909 music is a bit limited... but I would say this is a bit of a novelty record? It just goes on and on... fortunately it's not too badly scratched.
The etching is actually 6 1/2 inches across.

Label images up-loaded. I have also done the etched 'B' side to show the image area only, I would say it is slightly larger than the label area.

Unfortunately no can do with that one, but I think a slight careful depression in the middle may work. Will try one day soon, better than nothing!

Unless you have access to a larger scanner (up to A 3 size), it may be safer to take a picture of the label with your phone.

Thanks for the info xiphophilos, always interesting to know. I might try scanning it if it's possible to do so without breaking it! This record is slightly over 12'''s wide
