 I agree that Osborne's "Rosalie", in particular, doesn't even come close to the wonderful version two year's later by Artie Shaw with Tony Pastor's vocals. With some people, though, Osborne's singing must have been very popular. George T. Simon, in The Big Bands (4th ed., page 489), mentions that he "waged numerous pitched battles with Rudy Vallee for top spot in what we used to call the Single Nostril School of Crooning."

 Will Osborne made an awful lot of records into the middle 1930's. He was a bandleader on most of them and also the vocalist. One wonders what the secret of his success was. His vocal equipment was not impressive. He lacked any discernible style to dress up what little he had. He almost certainly wouldn't qualify for American Idol or America's Got Talent if he were around today.(Well, maybe Howie Mandel would vote for him. He might think he was funny.) I wonder who the enterprising A&R man was who made him put a female vocalist on one side of this disc.
