Based on the recording date, the 1926 original would have been released on a green Viva-tonal label with two patent dates (Jan. 21, '13 and May 22, '23).

I've now been able to look up the recording date in Spottswood's Ethnic Music on Records. He dates these tracks to April 1926.

Also a big thanks to you, xiphophilos!
I just ordered the whole series of Spottswood, as I have a lot more of US records to catalog and want to get deeper in the whole shellac topic.
So I'm much appreciated to get some good literature to read.

Recording date must fall between March and April 1926. Richard Spottswood's "Ethnic Music on Records" probably offers a slightly more exact recording date. I've copied a lot of dates from there, but not for this record, unfortunately.

Your label, as Mike already indicated, is a repress. To be more precise, it's a 1946-1948 CBS label with two lines of patent text under COLUMBIA, listing patent 1702564, cf. M. Sherman & K. Nauck, "Note the Notes," page 9.

Ah okay, now I understand, thanks a lot Mike!
This will help me with some other earlier and later releases I own as well.

The original release would have a pre-vival tonal label, otherwise known as the "note" label, and probably green in color. Examples are here. http://majesticrecord.com/labelscolumbia.htm

Can you show me where you found that information?
Would like to know some more good sources, as I actually just found that date with the same numbers "mx 106636, mx 106637" in WorldCat.
