The Director of the U.S. Marine Band, William Henry Santelmann (1863-1932, Director from 1898-1927), was born in Offenbach, Germany, which explains why he was partial to German marches for quite a while. This only became completely unfashionable when the United States entered World War I in 1917, and this record was at once struck from the catalogue. Right away in 1914, however, the titles of German marches played by the Marine Band started to appear in English translation only, as on this 1915 Victor record (cf. Glenn Watkins, Proof Through the Night: Music and the Great War, Volume 1, p. 252-253)

The label represents the first version of the Batwing Label, with the brand name VICTOR on the side of Nipper's gramophone. This label design was used between early 1914 - mid-1916, cf. M. W. Sherman, Collector's Guide to Victor Records, 2nd ed., p. 83.
