fixbutte 21st Mar 2016		This is the original recording of "When My Sugar Walks Down The Street", which would become a jazz standard, recorded by Duke Ellington's (with Ivie Anderson) and Ella Fitzgerald among others. It was also the first time that Gene Austin's vocal was featured on a record (after several uncredited vocals on records by blind country artist George Reneau). Apparently Austin, who had co-written the song, had to demonstrate it to the record company, and Nat Shilkret, a Victor A&R executive at the time, liked his voice and paired him to Aileen Stanley, a top Victor artist.
