This is the first catalog number of the new D-suffix (D for Domestic) series introduced by Columbia in December 1923. The series also heralded in a new label design, the "Flag Label," which was announced in the January 1924 Catalog Supplement and replaced as early as June 1925 by the Viva-Tonal label.

A mx: 81230-3, B mx: 81229-3.
Both recorded New York, NY, September 22, 1923.

When the matrix numbers are close together, as here, it makes sense to list the lowest one as the A side. When they are farther apart, it often seems to me the higher number was a newer, more heavily promoted song (the A side), and the lower number is an older recording that they released to have a B side to their A side.

That said, this record was advertised as "Now On Sale" in Columbia ads published in December 1923, as in the Indianapolis Star, Sunday, December 16, 1923, p. 7 (source), and "Just A Girl That Men Forget" was listed as the A side.

There doesn't appear to be "official" sides to these flag labels. They are not marked A or B anywhere. I think the only thing that comes close to an official side marking is the tiny numbers on the lower right side of the label.
