I have label images of several Australian Brunswick wing labels, saved in 2005/06 from ebay, when the images were often small and mediocre. They have a text layout different from the normal US issues (for ex., on 2560 the title is printed on one line), but can be identified now as Australian by the missing hyphen and the different filigree. These are Br(Au) 2119, 2309, 2475, 2525, 2560, 2563. I can supply them for research, or add them if entries for these records are made. I also think that 2308-A is Australian, as the label differs from the US label, and at the time the US labels did not show printing variations.

Br(Au) 2001 - This record is completely different from the US issue with the same number, Br 2001, which has different songs by different artists. I think they were experimenting in Australia when they started pressing and printing in 1924. Maybe the original intention was to start an Australian 2000 series. These titles were reissued on Br 2694 (Oct 1924), which was also pressed in Australia (see DAHR).
Release date should be changed into 1924. [Done! Mod.]

Thanks, JCL135. I was just as puzzled as Han and didn't notice the missing hyphen between Brunswick and Balke. First I thought they could just be U.S. imports to Australia. But the features you describe combined with the Australian royalty stamps on the third record you have uploaded, Brunswick 2568, confirm that these must be early Australian pressings of Brunswick records.

I'm not entirely sure about 2308 just yet. My decision to list it as Australian was solely based on the A-side label, though it is different to the ones seen here. The B-side label does appear to be American, though, but there is a definite difference between the two labels.

There's just no information about this stuff... Is it Australian? I don't know.

Key features include a missing hyphen between Brunswick and Balke, misaligned crest colours, thinner gold lining around the white area, and subtle differences to the filigree. For instance, if we look at the top right we can see that it extends above the 'k' instead of above the 'c'.

Thanks to 2568, which saw its American release in April 1924, as well as the design change in September, we can safely date this design's appearance to sometime in 1924. The first Australian Brunswick record was reportedly pressed in September 1924. We can also compare 2568s layout for the track details on the black & gold "Made in Australia" labels with the layout on the US entry and see that that it matches that used in Aus.

There's no way for me to confirm it 100%, but the plausibility of it being Australian is very high.

Br(Au) 2001 - How can I recognize this label (and 2 other "wing" labels) as Australian ??
