So the numbers match their original donor discs. Not a label error at all.

It would seem that you are right, xiphophilos. Perhaps it was an experiment that didn't pan out. If pairing up sides from two different records achieved significant savings or noticeably better sales, you'd think they'd have done it all the time, but we know they did not. The almost universal practice was to slap promo labels on both sides of the commercial record and distribute it to reviewers and disc jockeys. Maybe they got pushback from reviewers who disliked not having both sides to review? Disc jockeys probably could work with the format, but I daresay that if they had their "druthers", they'd "druther" get two free records instead of one.

The same promo combination of Columbia 20045 Bob Wills and 20054 Roy Acuff was sold on ebay in 2013. Maybe an attempt to promote two records at once?

The regular Columbia 37019 or 20045 (July 1946) contains Bob Wills on both sides with "Take Me Back To Tulsa" / "New Worried Mind".
Columbia 20054 (1948) contains two Roy Acuff songs, "Night Train To Memphis" / "Low And Lonely".

This looks like a label error. I'm guessing it only happened on the promo version, although it is always possible that it carried over into the regular commercial version, too. Does anyone know offhand whether this should be 20045 or 20054 on both sides?
