In cases like this, I'd usually give the release date as the day after the "ship date" given in those adverts. I once saw some release cards in Sony/BMG vaults of RCA Victor 78's of the period where Monday was the official "release" day. After all, while a week may start on a Sunday, Monday is the start of the business week.

United States or anywhere else, how many people are going to believe that a record was released on a Sunday? It seems even less believable for a 1950s release than it does for something more recent. Why are some people so obsessed with saying everything is released on a Sunday? If they'd put Monday, October 2nd I'd have accepted it and not commented.

I've removed the day. A release date at some point in October 1950 is surely right.

The RCA Victor ad in Billboard, to which I have now linked above, says, "This Week's New Releases: Ships Coast to Coast, Week of October 1."

In the United States, the week is considered to start with Sunday, not Monday.

I don't believe it. Another record claiming to be released on a Sunday? And in 1950? How many shops were open on a Sunday in 1950?
