George Slv 28th Jun 2017		I suppose this can explain the Bill Justis Raunchy 45 I got, which plays as if it has a stereo groove. No difference in the label. So deezee is confirming that such bootleg 45s were issued.

But this means nothing in to the question of the real Sun 78s and the answer to that is that none at all were pressed in vinyl. Re the boots, I'm not sure if the 1973 date is a little early (for the 78s) but I believe they were put out more than once in the 70s - 80s period, even in various colors of vinyl. And of course the whole set of 45s were done at least twice, the later ones absurdly issued in late 50s style Sun sleeves. Soon after the initial Robert Johnson frenzy and amazing prices for original 78s, the same happened to the Suns as their rarity was overstated by some dealers. The idea set in among unknowledgeable semi-collectors to buy these as investments, especially the 45s. Many placed these in their safe-deposit boxes, blissfully unaware that the pieces of plastic were worth less than $10. It has to be said that many later day sellers sometimes mistakenly include boots in their lists, quite unaware that they are doing so.

make1968 7th Jul 2015		My two (3) copies have the same label layout, but the other one has clearly fainter letters (= my upload). Does that count as a variation, maybe for someone…? Something for the friends of dead wax (shellac) : both copies are similar pressing with " u-142 , 72 / u-143 , 72 ". The one with clear letters has the reverse " M.S.I.CO " (Philadelphia pressing) both sides, the difference is that the faint lettered one is without (Memphis pressing??). Third copy clear letters: A = M.S.I.CO, u-143-2 , 72 . B = u-142 , 72 . make1968 25th May 2015		Nothing to do with the images here… But surely the now rare 1973 repro was already vinyl, then again it is not original. The question remains - were some of the original Sun 78's pressed on half-flexible material during the era?

molemilton 13th Jan 2013		Bill and Bobz, these are from the same record and it is definitely shellac. I used a camera rather than a scanner and differences in the colours etc are caused simply by locating the record in a different place and using different lighting to photograph either side. I hope to obtain a book scanner shortly with which I'll be able to obtain better scans and I shall do them again. Richard



bill mann 10th Jan 2013		bobz - These scans don't look like the same disc to me either, type settings are different, gaps between song title words on one side, no gaps on t'other, plus the obvious colour shades are a mile apart. Also heavy ring wear one, none on the other. I've never heard of a vinyl 78 on Sun before but it's not impossible I suppose.
