I myself only recently noticed that there are two variants of the RCA Manufacturing Scroll label. The one in which "Camden, N. J., / U.S.A." appears in two lines is the older one, used from February 1935 (so W.B.lbl) to September 1936 (I noticed it here in the database only on records from July 1935 on). The other one, with the entire phrase "Camden, N. J., U.S.A." squeezed into a single line, is the later one, used September 1936 to Fall 1937.
Vic 22938 - Missing label variants added, incl. the original A-side (Dinah) and its Oakland version, which have different label texts. Evidently the Oakland pressing was issued a little later and the label could be corrected. A pity the original B-side, with its different text, could not be found. Also remarkable, certainly for Victor, is the bad layout of the line with the vocalists on the ring labels.
Is it known why there are 2 variants of the RCA Manufacturing Co label (3- or 2-line address at 6) ?
It's not the original label yet (that would have to say "RCA Victor Company" at the bottom), but it is an earlier repress than my own copy:
February 1935-September 1936 Scroll labels with the company name RCA Manufacturing Co., Inc. and with Camden, N. J., U.S.A. in two lines rather than one.
The Scroll label version of this disc has a vocal credit on "Dinah" for Sonny Greer. It also has a vocal Credit on "Bugle Call Rag" for Sonny Green(sic) and C. Williams. You will note that on the illustrated version the vocal credit from "Bugle Call Rag" has migrated to the "Dinah" side and the apparently unwarranted vocal credit has been completely dropped from the "Bugle Call Rag" side. Not mentioned on either version are the ensemble vocal efforts of the band in support of Greer and Williams on "Dinah".
