Added some more information about the early Light Crust Doughboys on their first record (as Fort Worth Doughboys): Victor 23653, mostly coming from the book, We're the Light Crust Doughboys from Burrus Mill: An Oral History by Jean A. Boyd (2003, also on books.google).

The Light Crust Doughboys are connected to an eccentric Texas character named W. Lee O'Daniel who was governor of the state in the 1930s. He was in many ways responsible for the success of the group as a part of his promotion of a brand of flour. A record of him and the Doughboys is found here: Vocalion 02842

Later, 'Pappy' O'Daniel would use Mexican radio station XEAW to promote his political views, flour, and 'hillbilly' music.

It was a very important band indeed, and its first recording unit included both Bob Wills and Milton Brown who would become the leaders of the two most popular Western Swing bands of the 1930s, The Texas Playboys and The Musical Brownies respectively. Unfortunately this first lineup only made one record, under the name Fort Worth Doughboys, on Victor 23653, an excellent one though.
