"Chicken-Shack Boogie" was the official B-side of this record, but it became Amos Milburn's first national hit and made it to the top of Billboard's R&B charts (#1 both on the Best-Selling Retail Race Records and on the Most-Played Juke Box Race Records chart), and it was so big that it was registered as the third-best R&B seller in Billboard's Semi-Annual Retail Records' Sales Summary in mid-1949 (in which Amos Milburn was listed as the second-best R&B selling artist, after Paul Williams who also had the top-seller with "The Huckle-Buck").

"It Took A Long, Long Time", the nominal A-side, was a R&B hit too, peaking at #6 on the Juke Box Race chart.

Both sides were recorded before the second recording ban, in late 1947 in Los Angeles (either in the Universal Recorders or the Radio Recorders studio, depending on the sources), with Maxwell Davis on tenor sax, and unknown guitar (possibly Frank Heywood on the Dec 1947 session), bass and drums.
