fixbutte 9th Feb 2016		"On A Monday" (aka "I'm Almost Done"), though lesser known, is still quite impressive: Johnny Cash recorded a cover with altered lyrics under the title "I Got Stripes". These seem to be the lyrics that Leadbelly sings (see mudcat.org, with some edits): "On a Monday I was arrested On a Tuesday I was locked up in jail On a Wednesday my trial was attested On a Thursday nobody would go my bail chorus: Yes, I'm all -- almost done Yes, I'm all -- almost done Yes, I'm all -- almost done And I ain't gonna -- ring them -- yellow women's doorbells. Take these stripes, stripes from 'round my shoulders Take these chains, chains from 'round my legs Lord, these stripes sho' don't worry me, But these chains is bound to kill me dead. chorus On a Saturday, me an' my baby went-a walkin', On a Sunday, she knocked me outdo's.
