 @fixbuute: ...

I agree with what you say, as both you and I know that, but given the way Victors and RCA Victors have been knackered someone it is best that the clarification is known

 @Jock_Girl: There has to be a caution here, however to exclude and pre-CBS OKeh's, that number at 5000 and less

It seems, however, that pre-CBS Okeh numbers 5000 and less already stopped in 1923, after 4999 came 40,000 (the race series that went until 1927 was 8000s anyway). As these lower numbers have a completely different label design, there won't be any cases of doubt.

 @fixbutte: suggest that all 1930s Okeh records with numbers lower than 5600 should be dated 1940.

Best way to tell is to see if there is a Vocalion match on record

 It was definitely not released before July 1940, see also 78discography.com: "In June 1940, CBS changed the name of Vocalion to the unused OKeh brand. See Vocalion 5000, 5500 etc for any CBS Okeh records with numbers lower than this list. ..."

The last Vocalion, however, that I have seen was #5618 which was probably released in July 1940: Blues A Poppin' / Black Butterfly

I suggest that all 1930s Okeh records with numbers lower than 5600 should be dated 1940.

 Original Vocalion release was 1937.

This re-issue is at the earliest 1940 as that is when Columbia discontinued Vocalion and began re-issuing titles on OKeh.

I leave it up to the mods as to moving this to 1940
