 Famous Gleason quotes:
“Pow! Right in the kisser!”
“Bang! Zoom!”
“To the moon, Alice!”
Oh, and don’t forget CB Savage- Rod Hart

Please, PLEASE 4give us, 45kitties, I know we're way off-topic by now, but good-ol' Dr. Demento got a lotta mileage outta the 45 RPM singles "Big Bruce" by Steve Greenberg and "The Ballad Of Ben Gay" by Ben Gay and The Silly Savages!! Then there was the album cut "Kinko the Clown" by Ogden Edsl. No commercial station would dare touch those records with a 100-foot pole these days, but these were on the radio in our lifetime and considered acceptable at the time?!? ☺

...Oh, and u mentioned spousal abuse?!? Dr. Demento might have explored that via Jackie Gleason on this album?!?

@ edlongus: I have had to eliminate many songs from my playlists as the years have gone by. Any song from the 20’s that uses the term “darkies” of which there are many, like “Mississippi Mud” . People used to take in consideration that these terms were not considered derogatory when the records were made. Other titles are more obvious- “Get Cannibal” -Joe Haymes (mx 73032-1), Tommy Dorsey- If The Man In The Moon Were A Coon” (what were they thinking there? It was 1940 already), Clarence Williams “You’re Bound To Look Like A Monkey When You Get Old” . These do illustrate how far we’ve developed as a society, and I’ve never thought such history should be erased as it serves as a reminder of our cultural development. Even as recent as the 1960’s, we had songs like “Dumb Head” by Ginny Arnell, Jack Jones’ “Wives And Lovers”and plenty of teeners and country records that put women in a subservient role. Others from the ‘50’s like Jimmy McCracklin’s “Get Tough” and Sugarboy Crawford’s ”Watch Her Whip Her” seemed to promote spousal abuse.

I'm sorry DeweyGill that someone ruined the fun 4 the rest of us. I personally hate 'political correctness'!! I learned of this record 40+ years ago from the Dr. Demento Show, and I have 2 78 RPM copies. Now, I understand when some records just have 2 disappear ("Indian Giver" by the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" by Julie Brown come 2 my mind), but "Slap 'er Down, Agin, Paw" is just plain funny, AND I love singing along with this record!!

...Getting off my soapbox again... ☺

Over the 43 years that I’ve hosted a radio show, this was a listener favorite. At least it was for the first few decades. Over the last dozen years or so, I’ve played it much less frequently, being wary of the PC crowd , maybe once a year or two. People were missing the social satire of it. I dug it out again about 18 months ago, as I had a request for it. This time an angry listener complained loudly to the station manager, and in turn I was told to never play it again (and apologize!). No one has a sense of humor any more. Sheesh! Slapped down again.

The audio fidelity of the "Slap 'er Down, Agin, Paw" video BigBadBluesMan attached is very clear, especially 4 something from early 1948!!

Yet another politically incorrect gem from Arthur Godfrey. I love it!

I have a Radio Station Promo White Label copy. Can I post the labels here?
