 Syd Nathan at King was possibly the canniest indie label owner of them all. One of the cleverest things he did for many years was look for songs which could be pitched at both C&W and R&B markets and this is a good example. There was a rumour (probably not true) that his initial rejection of James Brown's "Please Please Please" was partly because he couldn't envisage a country or pop version.

 Bloodshot Eyes is a cover version of the track recorded and written by Hank Penny:
King 828

This original version was western swing as opposed to this RnB version.

Wynonie Harris' version is arguably more famous than the original.
