The story, steeped in old folk lore, is sung from the heart by a standout warbler, backed by a compact, clean combo led by soulful 88'ing. Hits with a haunting impact that could be as commercial as it is artistic."



slholzer 4th Jan 2015		Besides the re-release of Stack A Lee Parts 1 and 2 on Imperial 5358 to which this entry is linked, there was a second re-release of these tracks on 78 on Imperial 5563.



slholzer 3rd Jan 2015		If you are fond of modern day songs like Big Bad Leroy Brown, then you should have this one in your library. Stack A Lee is the archetype of such macho bad boy characters. Quite a few artists have rendered his story over the years, with lots of different twists. I'm particularly happy with Archibald's neo-ragtime attack on the piano. The moralist in me also likes the continuation into Part 2 where Stack A Lee gets his, both physically and morally. That doesn't happen.in most of the versions.
