 This is the Imperial version.

And here's the B side "Glory of Love" with singer Betty Owens (Freddie Assunto's wife), known as "The Duchess."

Dixieland jazz was never better represented than by the Assunto-led Dukes Of Dixieland. They were true born sons of New Orleans and they played like it. Their detractors claimed they used arrangements instead of improvising. If so, you couldn't tell. They had the swing and the spirit it took to sell the Dixie idiom. Moreover, they kept fast company. If I'm not mistaken, the clarinet on this clip is Pete Fountain, and I know he's not arranged. You always found the best men in their rhythm sections. And, like true entertainers, they sang well, too. makes me want to get out the albums...

Freddie Assunto (1929-1966) and his younger brother Frank (1932-1974) formed The Dukes Of Dixieland as teenagers in 1949. Vocalist "The Duchess" was Freddie's wife Betty Owens. Both "Bourbon Street Parade" writer Paul Barbarin (1899-1969) and Frank Assunto died on the day before Mardi Gras. See here for a retrospective of the Assuntos' career with the original Dukes.

The Imperial version of "Bourbon Street Parade" appeared on the 2000 Hip-O compilation Mardi Gras Essentials. Here's a later version. In the photograph, from left: Freddie Assunto, father "Papa Jac" and Frank.
