xiphophilos 28th Nov 2023		Both of these were originally pre-ww1 German Schlagers that remained popular for a long time. "Bubi, mein süßer Bubi" (sic!, = Boy, my sweet boy, 1913) is a two-step from the burlesque "Der Juxbaron" (The Imaginary Baron) by Walter Kollo. In 1927, Willi Wolff, who had written the libretto for "Der Juxbaron", turned the play into a silent movie starring Marlene Dietrich and Reinhold Schünzel (source). The movie was released March 4, 1927 (imdb) and may have inspired the March 1927 recording. "Puppchen, Du Bist Mein Augenstern" (= Little doll, you are the star of my eyes, 1912) is the best-known song written by Jean Gilbert from his burlesque "Puppchen."
cyeaman SUBS 28th Nov 2023		I considered that, Mike. Mx. 2232 is untraced in van Rijn & van der Tuuk's discography, but mx. 2824 is assigned to a Spanish selection that was issued on Paramount 6060. Also, in the introduction to vol. 4 of their NYRL discography, the authors state that the Puritan 70000 series issues that were produced for the Hagen Import Co. of St. Paul used mainly German-produced masters, although in a few cases NYRL masters were used.
Mike Gann 28th Nov 2023		The matrices appear to be from NYRL with the A-side recorded around March, 1927 and the B-side recorded around September, 1925.
