Audio of Wingy Malone, which I think is this recording rather than the earlier one (not knowing detail of the source I cannot say).

Some would claim the riff is from at least 1925
being Clarinet Getaway, by the Jimmy O'Bryant Washboard Wonders, 1925.

I suspect it floated around New Orleans / New York / Chicago for a few years before that !

 This track was originally recorded in late 1930 and released at that time on Champion 16153, and later on Champion 40005. It was credited to Barbecue Joe and his Hot Dogs, a psuedonym for Mannone and his band.

Its riff is the basic riff that makes up the song In The Mood as popularised by Glenn Miller with authorship claimed by Joe Garland.

The same riff was used/ pinched in 1931 by Fletcher Henderson and his Orchestra for Hot And Anxious with authorship claimed by Henderson. Columbia 2449-D
