I think this is very interesting, but probably is actually a misunderstanding of Music City's numbering system!

The first site linked does suggest that there might have been American gospel 78's made as late as 1963. However, both the link it provides and the second link go to the same site, a "fan" site that tries to list all Bay Area singles. That site has many inaccuracies and is the source site for the 1965 date. As just one example of the errors rife on that site, on the same Music City label, it references a "Bobby Smith" single on this same Music City label 731 - however, although that single exists and is correctly numbered and is from 1973, it has nothing to do with the Bay Area Music City Bobby Smith - it's actually on "Music City Workshop" from Nashville.

More likely, Music City had a gospel music series in the mid-to-late 50's that started with number 882, and includes both this 78 and another by the Golden West Singers.

The numbering here would actually place the record in the early 1970s, not in 1965, if one follows the numbers - but the "Bay Area listings" site linked puts all of those singles between 858 and 889 in 1965, whereas 870 actually came out in 1968 and 890 in 1971 - and both have the same design, a design unlike the one here.

The multicolor design used on this record with the "Berkeley 3, Calif." overlay through the logo first appeared in 1958 on (45) #815 - a bit later than the same design without the address, which first appears on #807. It continued only until #819 (1958) on 45's, then disappears until returning briefly in 1961 for 45's #838 through 840. After that, the label design has no address - #845 (from 1963), and then again #891, 892, 896 and 897 - all from the 1970's- or a capitalized address - #856 (from 1965).

I think the most likely date for this - along with the other oddly numbered 78 (888) is 1958, but there is skant evidence I can find for a date other than the typesetting style... One point in favor of a 50's, not 60's release date is that no 45's of this number have ever turned up, only the 78. Add to this a 45 with the same style (address "Berkeley 3, Calif." and multicolor) numbered 886 and with a date in the dead wax of 12-7-57... One further argument for 1958 is that only during that period did Music City also (along with the multi-color labels and "Berkeley 3, Calif.") number their records as 45-8XXA, 45-8XXB. This has the same style but with 78-8XXA, B.

According to HERE and HERE, yes this is a US 78 from 1965.
