 This record celebrates the first-ever transatlantic plane crossing from east to west (i.e., flying against the prevailing winds) accomplished by two German and an Irish pilot, Ehrenfried Günther Freiherr von Hünefeld, Hermann Köhl, and James C. Fitzmaurice, with the Junkers W22 plane "Bremen" between April 12 and April 13, 1928. All three were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by U.S. President Calvin Coolidge.
