 The 89000-block, introduced in 1906, featured duets by famous opera singers and was indeed priced at $4.00 (which, in terms of purchase value, was equal to about $100 today!). Regular Victor records cost $0.75 then (or $20 today). But some people back then clearly were willing and able to pay that much. On July 10, 1919, the prize was halved to $2.00 (by then worth only $28.30 in 2017 dollars). But who could wait that long? ;-)

This record was originally released on a Grand Prize Label; your Patents Label is an early repress from late 1910-mid-1912.
