Allan Sutton's "Pseudonyms on American Records 1892-1942" shows Bob White as "Nearly always" a pseudonym for Vernon Dalhart. The one known exception is on a completely unrelated label.

After listening to the three versions posted, I am inclined to think that everybody has a piece of the truth. At least part of the version of "Roll On Silvery Moon' on Regal 9182 is completely original material. It was undeniably copyrighted by Fisher in 1921, either without objection from Ernest or in spite of any objections that may have been raised. The other two versions are closely related. (Incidentally, I don't think Keefe was claiming authorship. Looks like a an artist credit to me with no attempt at a composer credit.) The fact that there is no apparent composer credit on Keefe's record suggests the possibility that Columbia considered it a traditional song and properly in the public domain. If it was a traditional tune, then both Ernest and Fisher could have copyrighted their own treatments of it.

There's even a third one with the same title, "Roll On Silvery Moon", but credited to Mark Keefe:

The same one, sung by Slim Whitman:

Here's the song credited to Charles Ernest and sung by Frank Kamplain alone:

All of them seem to be yodel songs and use the same, probably traditional melody.

The Library of Congress lists Charles M. Ernest as the composer. The record shown in the library of Congress has a recording date of Feb. 16, 1906. I think that the Fred Fisher version is a variation or perhaps even a different song with the same title. The Regal record (# 9182-side A) is a novelty song.

The on-line discographical project (ODP), lists the composer as (Charles M.) Ernest. The label has the composer as Fred Fisher. The label has "Novelty song" on it. Perhaps the label should state Arr. by Fred Fisher? Or, maybe the label is in error?. Either way, Charles M. Ernest is the composer of the original "Roll on silvery moon".
