Label variant scans added, with the new price of $1.00. The price increase is a sticker on the A side, and printed onto the label on the B side.

As it turns out, this particular record, A2811, is listed as early as November 14, 1919 in the Oakland Tribune (Oakland, CA), page 9, together with A2812-2814. Even if you can only read the garbled text, like me, you can search the OCR text for "Cairo" or "My Baby's Arms", and you'll find this record.

The Columbia ad where the record is listed is devoted especially to promoting Art Hickman's records. He was so popular that Columbia seems to have rushed his releases onto the market.

A2811 is not listed in The Talking Machine World, Nov. 15, 1919, page 194, which proves my point that TMW does not give a complete listing of all record releases, not even for the major labels like Columbia and Victor.

The Talking Machine World from Dec. 15, 1919, page 203, lists several catalog nr. close to A2811, namely A2802-2010 and A2815-2819. Why A2811-2814 are missing is a mystery to me.

It should be said, though, that TMW is not all-comprehensive. Some records never get mentioned by it, while others are mentioned twice. I've noticed that when a popular record was repressed and reissued, it often appears a second time together with other, completely new releases. Maybe that's the case here. The Aug. 1920 listing could be the listing for a re-issue.

Something just doesn't connect here. Why print labels in Oct. 1919 and not release the recordings for another 10 months or so? The Talking Machine World article is most likely correct. Something may have happened to delay the release of these issues.

Then I must stand corrected as to the release date. However, the July 15, 1920 issue of Talking Machine World lists A2811 among the advance releases for August 1920. And the same goes for A2812.

A2812 was released in Jan. 1920. That's probably correct here too. I'd suspect, though, that we could find both records in the Dec. 15, 1919 Talking Machine World, which would move the release date ahead to Dec. 1919.

This record has a label printing date code of JX (Oct. 1919) on the label shown. The release date of listed as Aug. 1920 above, seems to be incorrect. DAHR lists 1920 as the release year but does not show the month.
