According to the Talking Machine World, the quartet was discovered by a Columbia salesman who heard them singing in an alley in Norfolk, Virginia. Members were Johnny Johnson, Albert Johnson, George Perry, and Walter Harris.

They don't really sing blues, even though the title "Anticipatin' Blues" seems to imply that, but sound more like a barbershop quartet to me. Still, they seem to be some of the earliest African-American performers on record, and Columbia promoted them mightily.

Lyrics of "I am Wild about Moonshine" (sheet music)

Bo-bo-bo-booo
Nack-nack-nack-naaa :||

[Verse]
Today I met a fancy colored gal named Susan Anna, Susan Anna Gray
She seemed as bright an' cheerful as flowers in May
She said "I love the birds, the skies and the raindrops that fall
But child, you never could surmise what I love best of all.

[Chorus 1]
"I've gone wild
I'm wild about moonshine
Just crazy 'bout moonshine
I mean it makes you spoony, it sets you loony
I've gone wild from yearning night and day
And I feel like pining when the moon is shining far, far away
You get a fellar who is willing and a bench in the park
Drag the fellar and thе bench to a spot in the dark
Let him hug and let him kiss until his heart is satisfied
But if your conscience hurts then let your conscience be your guide
I've gone wild
I'm wild about moonshine
Moonshine has made a wild, wild woman of me"

[Chorus 2]
"I've gone wild
I'm wild about moonshine
Just crazy 'bout moonshine
[...]
I mean a little liquor, that has a kicker
I've gone wild from yearning night and day
And I feel that quiver of the Old Green River fading away
You get a cellar and a kettle, some yeast and some corn
A little sugar and some raisins, and you boil 'em till morn
Let it stand about a week and you'll discover with joy
'Twill kick you like a jackass (Wow!), oh boy
I've gone wild
I'm wild about moonshine
Moonshine has made a wild, wild woman of me"

 A side:

I've been raging ever so long,
watching and waiting for you, for you.
Did you know that my love is sound,
What are you going to do, to do?
