| jago125 17th Nov 2019 | I believe it's simply a matter of "The Gramophone Company" at Hayes using up whatever old labels they still have in stock. Of course, this can only occur on a later re-press which may also sport an older label on its reverse - not the other way around ! Please take a look at my contribution for English His Master's Voice B.6289, on which I note the very point you have mentioned. | |
| xiphophilos 17th Nov 2019 | The reason for the different label styes is that this is a repress. The B side with the multi-colored Nipper field is the earlier one, ca. Oct. 1937-Apr. 1939 (with patent text "or sold" rather than "nor sold"), Han Endeman's variant #C4 at https://early78s.uk/hmv-record-labels-on-the-b-series-1912-1958/ (unfortunately, all the label image links on this site are now broken). The monochrome Nipper design on the A side is Han Endeman's variant #C5 (May 1939-May 1946). So this repress is probably from late 1939, when some older label stock of the B side was still available and needed to be used up (I've re-captioned the images accordingly). The T purchase tax stamped was added on 21 October 1940 when this record still hadn't sold. | |
