Bob1951 5th Dec 2017		Ok, I found this: The American Zonophone Discography II: The Roots and Early History of American Zonophone Records 1898–1905 . According to the DAHR, this is the first paper label design and "was introduced in May 1903, when the Auburn Button Works began pressing for Zonophone. Auburn’s pressings, made in a brown-shellac compound, were often rather crude. (1903–1904)". This label should be moved to Zonophone.



scrough 4th Dec 2017		Thanks Bob - We have three distinct 'Zonophone' USA labels, see the label biog. The 'German' company was incorporated in New Jersey, USA, so perhaps Victor took over their USA catalogue, while GramCo took over the European one.



Bob1951 4th Dec 2017		It is listed on ODP. if that helps. According to ODP the C. stands for concert.



scrough 4th Dec 2017		The lyre motif on this label suggests that it is related to Victor's Zon-O-Phone line of records, which came about when The Gramophone Company in Britain took over the German-based Zonophone company in 1903. Nine-inch discs were not normal for Victor/GramCo, so perhaps this disc has its origins in the German company. More info welcome!
