 Al Dexter lacked a critical skill: the ability to count to four. Both of these recordings are marred by Al throwing off the band by coming in on the wrong beat of the measure, forcing them to play catch-up. He did it twice on the A-side! One wonders, were they only given one shot for each at the session, or were these the least-screwed-up takes out of numerous others that had even worse gaffes in them? Nonetheless, "Pistol Packin' Mama" became Al's biggest hit.
