If it was #1 for 9 weeks from 14th November 1952, that would not suggest its bestselling days were behind it. Are you referring to ‘The Missing Charts’ book? I guess that might be the source for it being a hit in July. But it would have to have been a fairly skewed sample of shops if it wasn’t actually the bestselling record for those 9 weeks it’s officially listed as a #1.

Not sure how accurate the original first NME chart would have been, as it was only based on 20 outlets,

Probably more accurate than the self styled "official" charts taken from the minimally circulated and almost unknown in the sixties Record Retailer chart.

Not sure how acurate the original first NME chart would have been, as it was only based on 20 outlets, but am sure this discs best selling days were behind it as of the 14th November 1952...Released in July it was an imediately sensational UK hit , being a #1 best seller...with its peak between early September to early November....Big sellers in November, included
Guy Mitchell - Feet Up
Nat King Cole - Somewhere Along The Way
Johnny Ray - Faith Can Move Mountains
Les Paul - Meet Mr Callaghan
and tho obviously not wanting to rewrite history, maybe at least a couple of these were outselling the Al Martino disc late November and December

The EP version might have been the re-recording, unless you know different.

I'd guess the mauve labels are a later pressing.
