According to the book first hits, this is down as a July 1954 release...which tbh is probably more accurate than sept..as the gold plum capitol issues had phased out come sept 54 to be replaced by the silver text copies

It was quite a slow burn, taking about four months to reach the top of the charts from original release.

Massive breakthrough hit for Ford, this record spent seven straight weeks at #1 in March and April 1955.

The Official Tennessee Ernie Ford web site, inthe Singles section -- entry number 48 show a US release date of 31 May 1954, so there is a 'blip' in catalog numbers around this and Catfish Boogie (as well as Dean Martin's That's More on CL. 14008)

Over in the 45s here it says October 1954 with chart action in January 1955 for the UK release

Which means: Both sides recorded Apr 22, 1954, first released in the USA on Capitol 2810 late in May 1954 or early in June 1954 (BB June 5, 1954, p. 31).

Thus release date corrected from Dec 1953 to the year of 1954. Someone who knows more may add the accurate month and day.

The 1953 date for this is highly suspect because according to here

PragueFrank

And

Billboard

These tracks weren't recorded until spring of 1954 -- with the film in which he sang them also coming out at that time

Not sure where the Cat No fits in on this one as CL 14005 stems way back to Dec 1953... that being the case this would exist on the black and gold capitol...must admit i have never seen one of those copies
