Takes me back to the 1950s. I'm in RAF Nicosia as a kid and my mother is wearing a polka dot A-line dress, with permed hair, pearl earrings and necklace, and white-rimmed sunglasses to match her handbag The composers' names were aliases of Eddie Calvert and Norrie Paramor, apparently. I can still see this spinning round and round on the light green 'Elac Star' record player. At the time, the title "The Pansy" would have been very pejorative... no wonder they changed it.

Messy songwriter history according to ASCAP

Originally written by Furio Rendine as "La Pensee."
Then copyrighted with extra songwriter Egidio Pisano as "La Pansé."
Then copyrighted with a third songwriter John M. Elliott as "The Pansy."

Didn't find any mention of "Mandy."

Nice - I suppose it's important to know which came first as that would affect the title... :read:

Actually -- if you rely on Paul Pelletier's research and like issues on 45, it would be 1957

 Unsure whether 1958 or 1959?
